"Are you starting to feel any better?" Lucy asks as she settles onto the bed beside me. "You look like you're on the mend, much more rested and relaxed than before.”
While my pregnancy symptoms had subsided, my heart still ached with the absence of Lucas. Living in his family's home didn’t ease the pain. Everywhere I turned, there were pictures of him, smiling and seemingly happier than ever during our time together.
Lucy catches me staring at one of his photos and even though I try to act natural, my nervousness gives it away, "Lucas has always been the life of the party in the family," she remarks. “When I first came to this castle, things weren't as great as they are now. It was Lucas who helped me to adjust to his family. He made everything lighter in a good way.”
