I'm shocked when Clarice grabs my phone off the nightstand and answers it. I could have guessed who it was before Clarice even started to speak. When she calls me her husband to Loretta, my eyes immediately flick toward Nick. I'm surprised to see him very clearly fighting the need to laugh. I thought he might be angry or upset hearing Clarice refer to me as her husband, but he's not. Clarice always had that way of making you feel secure in her love.
I'm glad he isn't upset with her. It's strange, but since the accident the sadness and regret that felt like it was drowning me seems to have faded. I'm still sorry for what I did, and I love Clarice, but it's almost as if my heart knows she is no longer mine. "I'm sorry, Trevor, I shouldn't have answered your phone."
