Chapter 4 MY PHONE RINGS at three in the morning. The sound jolts me upright in bed, heart pounding. I grope the nightstand, missing the phone on the first three tries. My limbs ache and my head is fogged with sleep despite the adrenaline racing through my veins. When I answer, my mouth is so dry, I can barely say hello. “Hey, it’s me. I’m sorry to call so late.” The voice makes my eyes shoot open. “Belinda! Where ... what? I mean—” “Before you can ask, yes, I’m okay.” “I’m assuming you’re not here.” I strain my ears, but I already know the answer. If Belinda were here, she’d just knock on my bedroom door. “You’d be right.” “Or Gregory’s?” I hate to go there, but I want to know where she is. She snorts. “No, I’m not there either.
