Phin had tried to sound like he was joking, but when Emily’s eyes widened, he winced inwardly. So much for trying to put her at ease. But then again, he’d been right: something was wrong with her. What had caused the sudden shift in her behavior? Did she regret their night together? That thought alone made his heart sink into his toes.
