Narrowing my eyes, I stared at Emily’s name flashing on the phone screen. Confusion swirled in my mind as I debated whether to answer.
“Why aren’t you picking up?” Ashlyn asked, her tone laced with curiosity.
“I don’t know if I should. I had such a perfect start to my morning, and she’s probably calling to ruin it,” I muttered, still hesitant.
“What if she needs you? Just answer it,” she urged gently.
Reluctantly, I pressed the answer button and took the phone to my ear.
