CHAPTER 38. FAR FROM BEING OVER I didn't know what came over me. It was as if the air in the room had been replaced by a heavy, intoxicating vapor that scrambled my neurons. Everything I had held onto just moments before—the rationality, the crushing guilt, the fear of consequences—simply evaporated. The atmosphere in the room became superheated, stifling and thick.
