I was always afraid of ending up alone, and it was always worse when I was alone in a dark space. I met my fair share of horrible situations where I was left in a dark place, all bruised and bloodied. I have blamed myself for ending up there. I've blamed my weak body for not fighting back. But I was just a kid, and the only people who were supposed to care about me, hated me.
My parents were the reason for these unnecessary fears. They were unmerciful and always locked me in the basement, sometimes for days, if I talked back. And after I grew up and left that horrible place, I promised myself not to end up in that situation ever again.
