We checked into the De L’Europe Hotel near Rembrandt square. Our room overlooked the river Amstel, where it flows into the Rokin Canal. The next morning, we visited a doctor. I wanted to make sure Katharina’s leg was healing properly and that there were no complications. The doctor examined the wound and stitches, added some disinfectant, and re-bandaged it. He also advised Katharina not to walk too much on it, adding that it needed another two weeks or so to heal properly. He gave us some dressings and a bottle of carbolic acid to keep the wound and the area around it clean and disinfected. We decided to take a cruise on Amsterdam’s extensive system of citywide canals. It wasn’t what Katharina wanted to do. She would rather have walked around the city, but her leg dictated ot
