AS soon as Adrian left the house the next morning, Vivian waited a beat, listening to the front door click shut behind him. No time to waste. She slid onto her dresser stool, phone in hand, staring into the mirror, her reflection calm but her mind racing. Her fingers flew over the screen, dialing the number she had memorized, and held her breath. The line rang twice before it was picked up. “Hello?” came a sultry, mocking voice.
