MAX’S POV
After my meeting with the elders, I decided that it was best for me to go into Michael’s room and get the box the same way that he had taken it. I did consider approaching him and asking him to hand it back to me, but I didn’t want to do that and risk him being cocky and refusing him because I wasn’t sure of how it would end if he did that. I didn’t want to give him an opportunity to disrespect me like he had been doing ever since I got here. I wished I could see the reason why the elders thought keeping me and Anaiah here was a good idea. Even though we had both made it clear, we wanted to leave, but I just couldn’t. I didn’t see how this would end well for either of us, because neither me nor Michael was willing or planning to let Anaiah go.
