ALEXZIA
The following days after Magnus’s confession, were filled with excitement and anticipation. During my free time, Magnus and I would go biking around town. My best friend, Yssa was out on vacation with her family for a week so I have not told her about my latest story yet.
Today, I’m out with Yssa. She promised to treat me to the new ice cream house in town. She’s my best friend so we do our best to spend as much time as we can.
I was deep in thought when she came back to our table with ice cream and drinks.
“Uhhhm… earth to venus… earth to venus…” she jokingly said trying to bring me back to earth.
“Oh, hi!” I said giggling.
“You seem to be buried in your thoughts again. What happened? Come on, girl, tell me.” Yssa said with concern and curiosity written all over her face.
“I have something to tell you,” I replied.
“Oh wow! What is it?” she asked excitedly.
“But first, let’s dig into this delicious thing before it melts in the summer heat,” I said with a mischievous smile.
“Hey, how can I eat when you leave me hanging like that?” Yssa said, pouting.
“But this beautiful ice cream will lose its appeal when it melts,” I joked, trying to sound convincing.
“Okay have a few mouthfuls then talk,” she said encouragingly.
“Okay, I think I’ll first drink my ice tea then,” I said.
“I’ll just have to die waiting then,” Yssa said with her puppy eyes.
We burst into laughter then started eating our ice cream.
Then she stopped and looked at my neck.
“Hey! When did you have that?” She asked, surprised while pointing at my necklace, which Magnus gave.
I automatically touched the pendant and remembered Magnus and smiled.
“Oh my! Who’s the boy?” She exclaimed. “O…M…G! I was just gone for a week and now you got a boyfriend?”
“Calm down, best friend! Drink your juice then I’ll tell you.” I said, trying to calm my best buddy and suddenly I felt somewhat nervous.
“Okay, here it goes… Last week, while you were out of town… do you remember Magnus?”
“My hunch was true after all,” Yssa butted in. But I continued talking:
“I’m sure you remember him. So they arrived and that night, he asked if he could see me after dinner…
“And then what?” Yssa interrupted me.
“Just listen and don’t interpt me okay?” I said.
“Okay then. Go on,” came her reply.
“So we met at the garden,” I continued. “All along I thought he was just eager to chat with me since it was quite a long time since they last visited. But I was so surprised that he confessed his feelings! With his confession is this necklace, which he himself had it custom- made. I think they own a jewelry shop in Korea.”
“Wow! Then what did you say?” Yssa asked eagerly.
“What do you think? Of course, I was speechless, my heart was beating so fast and I could not believe that it was happening.” I replied
“And?” She prodded.
“He said that I didn’t have to answer since he knew me very well and that my answer was written all over my face,” I said, smiling from ear to ear.
“Oh my gosh! You really have a boyfriend! We’re barely in high school yet! Congratulations!” Yssa excitedly said as she hugged me.
“Shhhhh… Yssa, keep it low. There are people around.” I said then we just laughed and continued to catch up on each other’s life.
Suddenly, my attention caught a familiar figure at the entrance. I froze in my seat and I could not concentrate on what Yssa was saying. Yssa noticed my reaction and stopped talking.
“Hey, Lex! Why aren’t you responding? Are you okay?” She asked then she looked at where my gaze was.
“Hi girls!” was what this very familiar figure said when he approached us. I just smiled then felt so nervous when he took the seat next to me.
“Are you okay?” He asked with concern when I didn’t say anything.
“Ah, I.. I.. I’m o-okay,” I stammered.
“Wow! You are more handsome than the last time I saw you!” Yssa remarked. “No wonder my bestfriend over here, seem to have lost her soul when she saw you enter.” Yssa nudged me.
“Yssa, you remember Magnus, I’m sure.” I said to divert my nervousness.
“Yeah, your friend-turned- boyfriend.” She said, smiling.
“I like the sound of that,” Magnus replied with his gorgeous smile that didn’t leave his handsome face and then he looked at me.
Gosh! He is so super handsome when he smiles with his dimples showing. I had to look away or I could melt faster than my uneaten ice cream.
When I looked at him again, he winked and I’m sure I turned red because my cheeks felt so hot.
“Aww, these love birds! Don’t make me want to have a boyfriend too.” Yssa suddenly said and we burst into laughing.
“Seriously now, Magnus,” Ysssa turned serious. “Alexzia here, is the sweetest, most precious friend I have in the whole wide world. Please don’t break her heart. Promise me that.”
“I’ll do my best to be the best one she deserves” came the reply from the boy beside me.
I smiled and then he said, “Why don’t we spend the remaining part of the afternoon at the movies? I found out that there is this great movie showing this week.”
With that, Yssa stood up and said, “Let’s go! Time is precious!”
At the movie house, I was alone waiting at a the hallway as Magnus went to buy the tickets while Yssa went to the bathroom. Suddenly two guys approached me and i recognized them as the bullies at school. I’m sure that they were furious at me because before classes ended, I reported them to our teacher. Because of that, more complainants came out and the bullies’ parents had to be called. As for their punishment, they served 18 hours of community service.
The guy named Jed seem to be the more aggressive of the two. He looked around then both of them approached me. “Hey, Mike, look who’s here. Isn’t this the big mouth in school, eh?” he said aloud.
I just stood there, defiantly. I should not run away or they'll just chase me til they catch me.
“You’re right, Jed. She is the reason why we got humiliated all over town,” Mike replied and sneered at me.
Jed grabbed my left arm and started to drag me towards a corner.
"Let me go! You're hurting my arm," I said angrily.
Jed continued to drag me when we heard somebody shout.
“Let her go!”
