I watch her sleep peacefully in my arms. Her exhaustion is proof that I didn’t achieve what I wanted. Yet, somehow, I still don’t give a damn. I stroke her hair as I mindlink Jace and Trevor.
“Well?”
“Max, it’s 1 in the f*****g morning. Laney and I are occupied!”
“Why didn’t you set up a block?”
“Because I didn’t expect anyone at 1 in the f*****g morning!”
With that Trevor leaves.

“Max, I was trying to sleep. This better be an emergency because I have the kids in the morning.”
“What did you find out?”
“I will tell you, but you just earned yourself baby duty in the morning. The wolf prints ended about a hundred yards off the road. We saw some human prints and tire tracks. My best guess is whoever it was, shifted and fled the scene of the crime.”
