“Boss, they are in the board room, they have been waiting for you for half an hour now.” Gina, his PA said the moment he walked right into his office.

“I know Gina, just go in there and tell them that I will join them in a few minutes, I just need to get ready for the meeting.”

“Okay Sir, I will inform them right away.” She said and then walked out of his office and to the boardroom. After the meeting his father was around, he wasn’t expecting to see him in the meeting; his father asked if he could talk to him in his office.

“Dad, I didn’t know that you are coming today?”

“Yes, I wasn’t coming to the meeting, I was actually on my way to the office, I just wanted to work on something but decided to pass by and talk to you, I know your mother was at your place yesterday and she might have told you something.”

“Yeah, that is the same thing I want to talk to you about dad, she was at my house yesterday and something funny is that Raquel is into this too, I have been thinking that maybe this is her scheme to take the company away from me and I will not just sit around, I am almost thirty but that doesn’t mean that anyone should be pressuring me into getting a wife, I still trying to get over my ex and the fact that she died, you guys should give a break.”

“I am not part of your mother’s scheme and you know that is unlike me and I am just to tell you that nothing of the sort is going to happen, you are my son and my firstborn, that company is mine so don’t get all worked about your mom’s plan because there is nothing she is going to do about it, you just focus on running the company and ensure a smooth running of the other business, take your time to find a wife yourself, I believe it isn’t always about having a wife but one day when you are ready you will take that step.” His father said and he nodded in agreement, he always liked his father because he was the only one who understood him and considered how he felt about sensitive topics.

“Thank you, Dad, thank you for everything, I knew you would understand my side of the story.” He said and his father smiled reassuringly.

“I came here to tell you something I have been meaning to tell you for a long time now but I didn’t know how to tell you.” He started but before Victor could say anything, his phone rang, it was a new number.

“Dad, I am sorry but I will have to pick this up.”

“It is okay, go right ahead.” Andrew said and Victor received the call and put it on his left ear, after the call, he immediately got up from his seat and took his coat from the hanger, “Dad, I am sorry but I will have to leave now, it is an emergency from the hospital, we should catch up and finish this talk tomorrow maybe but there is an urgent matter at the hospital that I have to take care of right now.” He said and picked up his car keys.

“Wait, what is going on, who is sick and why are you in so much hurry, at least wait up for me, I will drive you to the hospital.”

“No Dad it is no one you know, before I came to the hospital, I had a minor accident and I rushed the girl to the hospital, the doctor just called to tell me that she is awake now and I have to go by and see how she is doing, don’t worry everything is fine.” He said and patted his father’s shoulder reassuringly as the two walked out of his office.

“Gina, I am stepping out to go to the hospital, I am going to see a friend of mine, in case I am too late, just close up and lock my office, and I will see you on Monday.”

“Okay sir, I hope your friend is okay?”

“That is what I am going to find out, have a nice evening.” He said.

“Nice evening to you Sir.”

“Oh no problem Gina, I am stepping out too, my business is here and is done,” Andrew said with a smile on his face and the two stepped out of her office and to the elevator.

“I hope I will see you on Sunday right?”

“What is happening on Sunday?”

“Yes, have you forgotten about the family dinner tomorrow?”

“Oh shoot, I will be there, say hi to Mom, I will be on my way now Dad,” Victor said and then got into his car; Andrew watched as he sped off and got in his car then instructed his driver to take him to his office a few miles from Victor’s company.

At the hospital, Jasmine had just woken up and she was having a throbbing headache, there was a nurse in the room to check on her in case she needed anything.

“Hi, you just woke up and the headache is because you hit your head hard but you will be fine soon, don’t worry about it, don’t strain so much, I will get the doctor immediately.” She said and then walked out of the room, Jasmine was left staring around, she was wondering what she was doing in the hospital and the hospital gown then it dawned on her, she passed out in Victor’s car and he might have brought her to the hospital, she needed to get out before he would come back but the moment she tried getting out of the bed, she experienced a sharp pain in her ribs, she retreated back and just then a male doctor walked in.

“Hi, I know you so much want to get out of that bed but not right now, you have three broken ribs and suffered a concussion, you need to rest but you will need a wheelchair to walk around so don’t strain yourself so much, I can see that you are up already, how are you feeling?”

“A throbbing headache and I feel tired.”

“Yes that is because of sedatives but you will be fine soon, the guy who brought you in, you know him?”

“Yes I saw him twice I guess, how long have I been here, I need to get going, I had plans with Tiffany and I have to go.” She said and she looked around for her phone.

“I am sorry but that will have to wait, there are a few questions I would like to ask you though.”

“Okay for as long as I get out of here at the end of the day it is fine, I can’t sleep here, and who will pay the bills?”

“The bill has been cleared by Mr Roberts you don’t have to worry about that, so what is your name, I have to fill in your details, and he said he didn’t know your name.”

“Yeah, that is right because I didn’t tell him my name, I am Jasmine, Jasmine Howard, I stay a few miles from here, oh and I am 24, I am turning 25 in two months.” She said and the doctor smiled.

“I got it, you will have to wait for Mr. Roberts to take you home, I called him and he is on his way here.”

“But why, I thought you said he already cleared the bills, why I’m I not allowed to go home yet?”

“Because he has to sign the discharge papers first and I would advise you take enough rest until your ribs heal, that means you don’t have to go to work until you heal.”

“Okay, I get it, can I at least get my phone, I have to tell Tiffany I am at the hospital, and she will be sick and worried about me.”

“I am sorry Jasmine but you didn’t have your phone on you when you were brought in, just wait for your knight in shining armour to get here, he will be here shortly.” The doctor said and Jasmine shrugged.

“Of course, it had to be him.” She said under her breath.

“What did you say?”

“Nothing, thank you for taking care of me.” She said with a smile pestered on her face and the doctor nodded before walking out, she sighed when he walked out and lay back on the bed.

About twenty minutes later, Victor came running into the room and smiled when he saw her, she smiled back faintly because she didn’t know what to do, Victor never smiled at anyone but he had just smiled at him.

“How are you feeling, I rushed here when the doctor called me.”

“I am feeling better, thank you for bringing me to the hospital, but I think I should head home, my friend will be sick and worried about me, and thank you for paying the hospital bill.”

“No problem, I was just doing what I should have done, don’t thank me and don’t worry I will be taking home from here, let me just clear with the doctor I will be back in a few minutes.”

“Okay, I will be here.”

A few minutes later Victor walked in with a nurse who was having a wheelchair to help take her downstairs, took her to his car and made sure that she was comfortable in the backseat then left the two.

“I figured out you needed a new phone so I bought you one.” He said and fished out a brand new iPhone 13 Pro, she was overjoyed inwardly but didn’t want to show it.

“Thank you so much but you didn’t have to get me a new phone, mine was working pretty fine.” She said as she searched through her bag, found her phone, and tried to switch it on but nothing happened.

“Here, you can just put in the Simcard and it will work just fine, you don’t have to pay me back because I know that is what you are about to say.” He said and handed her the phone and she chuckled.

“How did you know that? Anyway thank you for the phone, why are you being so nice to me though? I am just nobody, not even your league.”

“I am just doing what I am supposed to do, I might be the mighty Victor Roberts but I am human and that is what most people don’t understand.”

“Yeah I can see that, thank you, for everything and the phone, it is the latest model.”

“Yeah I know, you’re welcome.” He said as he drove off from the hospital premises.

“And you didn’t even ask my home address, where are you taking me, my place is that way and you are taking me the other way?” Jasmine asked immediately she replied that he was taking a different route.

“Relax, I am not trying to kidnap you, I am just taking you to my place, there is a nurse who will be attending to you until you get better and then you can go back to your place.”

“I have a job to go back to.”

“Yes, the job that you just lost, don’t worry you will resume your normal life after I make sure that you are okay, that is my duty, so don’t argue with me and if you think I am k********g you, you can call your best friend.” He said and she sighed, he was not trying to kidnap her, he was just trying to be nice.

“Okay just because I can’t walk on my own, otherwise I would have jumped out of my place, I have a question though, is my friend allowed to visit me because I would hate to freak her out.”

“Okay I would never say no to your friend coming to see you, that would be selfish and I am out that selfish, so we have a deal, just try and relax back there, I am driving with so much care so don’t worry about the bumps, we will be home in a few minutes.”

“Okay, it is not like I have a choice here.” She said defeated and Victor smiled at her through the rearview, she then texted Tiffany about what happened and the Tiffany called her immediately.
