The city outside had already transformed into its nighttime version. Office workers had disappeared, restaurants had filled, and the steady flow of headlights painted long ribbons of light across the streets below. Most evenings she would have stayed even later, especially now that Lucien had given her access to resources she could never have afforded on her own.
Tonight, however, exhaustion had finally won. She shut down her workstation, collected her laptop, and stepped into the elevator.
