Levi
I was losing my ever-loving mind. I couldn't focus, I couldn't get anything done. All of my conversations ended up trailing off, and I hadn't completed any tasks that I had set aside for myself, and it was only nearing lunch. She hadn't spared me more than a passing glance. She was respectful with nothing but "Yes Sir" and "Yes Mr. Saunders", which I had to admit had my d**k stirring in my pants.
High school Levi would have been joking and laughing at my predicament but grown man me? Alpha Levi? I was salivating at the sight of her, not just because she is an omega. Her blonde hair is the same shade as it was in high school but fuller, longer. Her brown eyes sparkled with fire, an energy that showcased her true demeanor and feisty nature within. As much as I hated to admit it, she was beautiful in high school, but if I thought she was beautiful then.....I couldn't even begin to describe her perfection now. Perfection? God, I was like a dog bringing its master a bone. I slapped my face a bit to wake myself from this stupor but my eyes strayed right back to her form.
She tensed every time she felt my eyes on her and that made me smirk. Good, feel the same uncomfortable feeling that I am. Feel the same tension, the same pull that seems to be driving me absolutely mad. She wasn't afraid to sass me. She stood toe to toe with me earlier, and she didn't shy away, she didn't look down like most. She was driven and focused, although if I heard her phone ping one more time I would likely crash out.
It had pinged consistently with notifications once every 15 to 20 minutes. Who was taking her time and attention from me? No, not me, her work? I leaned back in my chair and drummed my fingers across the wooden top of my desk. The bright light from the afternoon sun was heating the room. Pictures of my family and I hung around the room along with pictures of me and my friends and a few of my clients and coworkers. Plants that my mother insisted I had filled the air with an aroma of freshness, but the only scent I could focus on and could sense was Shaynas.
DING...DING...DING DING
Fucking hell... I snarled and stood from my chair and stormed towards Shayna's desk like a petulant child throwing a tantrum. I couldn't stop myself. I don't know why I was so bothered and rattled by her. It could be that she was an omega, but I didn't think so. I could smell the suppressants coating her being, keeping her inner omega locked away from predators like me. When I made it to the edge of her desk, her perfume hit me and I had to stop my eyes from rolling into the back of my head. Cherries, vanilla, was that a hint of pistachio? f**k!
I slammed my hands down on her desk, causing her to yelp and flinch harshly. She looked up at me with big wide eyes. The brown that I was hoping to see had faded to a dull and pale tan. She had true fear in her eyes. My eyes searched hers, hoping she understood that I meant her no harm. I just wanted whoever was occupying her time to stop. It's not because I was jealous. I'm not.
Shaynas chest rose and fell with rapid breaths and her neck ticked where her veins pulsed with fast heartbeats. Her fear was triggering my alpha. Protect, protect, protect Omega, I heard in my head, in my soul, over and over again. She put her hand on her chest and took a few slow deep breaths and closed her eyes for a few seconds. Her scent changed from fear and terror to one of dull anxiousness. My fists clenched and unclenched, trying to work the adrenaline from my system.
"What can I do for you, Mr. Saunders?" She bit out in a harsh tone. It was clear she didn't appreciate me scaring her, but it's not like I meant to. Her phone dinged again, which reminded me of my anger in the first place. She rolled her eyes as she locked her phone screen and flipped it face down.
"Who is it?" I barked out. She looked at me with a puzzled expression. "Who is blowing up your phone and distracting the whole damned office?"
"Not that I owe you an explanation as it says nowhere in my contract that you need to know exactly who I'm talking to."
"Oh, but it does. Not directly. That pesky little fine print. You are on company property. You are on the clock. I am paying you to work, not to be chatting it up with your lovers and flames of the week or gods knows who. We have sensitive client information here, information that you have access to. It is a liability. You could be trading corporate secrets to competitors...you could..."
"Let me stop you right there, Mr. Saunders." She spit out my name with an amount of venom that had me surprised. "I am very well aware of what my contract states. I read it thoroughly and while I know I am not allowed to leak personal information to any outside sources without a ROI on file or your approval and that I am not allowed to duplicate or extract sensitive information for my own personal use, it says nothing about having my phone on me or getting text messages. It just says to remain professional and to complete any and all tasks given to me. I have completed all of my work you assigned me and I've even started on the backlogs of information that needed to be corrected and scanned in. My phone is not a distraction and Christina assured me I would be able to keep it on me in case of emergencies. And not that its any of your business who's talking to me because outside of work, you don't control me. No one does. I don't owe anyone an explanation of who is texting me, who I'm seeing, who I'm f*****g and spreading my legs for. But to ease your fragile alpha ego, ill let you in on a secret. It was my f*****g son texting me. Now, if you'll excuse me. I will be taking my lunch now!" she said as she stood and grabbed her purse and stormed off. Her heels clicked on the floor as she stomped towards the elevators, her hips swaying with every move. I was powerless, completely and utterly stunned. I couldn't move or chase after her, I was too focused on the fire and fight she had burning in her soul and I wanted to stoke it. I wanted to pour gasoline on that fire and see just how far she was willing to push and how hard I could press her on. Like a game of cat and mouse, I wanted to keep playing. Hook..line..and sinker, and I was caught. I may not be an addict, but I may have just found my perfect blend of heroin to keep me coming back for more every time.
