Amarah Father and Mother weren’t so easy to convince that we had to leave, especially not from what happened last time I left. Mother is horrified that she refused to out of her and Dad’s tent for days. Father directed his fury on Maex. Saying words that I won’t ever think he’d ever say, out of the fit of his fury he said he regretted letting me marry him and that he’s exposing me to danger. Before storming off and following my mother to their tent I hold Maex’s hand. The tightness in my chest hasn’t left. “I’m sorry” I say to Maex. His blank face slowly smiles towards me, still filled with warmth and genuine fondness. “I expected this much.” “I don’t know how you manage to take that with a straight face” “Trust me, I have been through worse” He laces our hands together and squeezes.
