Chapter 2

Bright: At the Morgan Group, I sat in my office chair on the fifth floor of a five-story building, discussing business with a client when my fiancée, Nini Andre, entered. "Bright, I am done with this relationship!" Nini shouted, throwing the diamond engagement ring at my face. It was the ring that I had given her and proposed with the previous night. Nini did not mind that I had a client with me. She openly embarrassed me in front of my top business partner. "Mr. Justin, we will continue our business negotiation later," I said, my tone steady and firm. Mr. Justin stood up and exited my office, pretending not to have witnessed the angry woman in my office. After Mr. Justin left, I fixed my gaze on Nini. She was a tall, fair-skinned, 27-year-old woman who worked for me as my finance manager. "What is the matter, Nini? Why did you throw the diamond engagement ring at my face?" I asked, standing up from my office chair and walking out to meet her. I picked up the ring from the floor as I stood to face her. I am the CEO of the Morgan Group and the Blues Hotel in this city. "Bright, are you asking me why I am calling it quits? Are you truly a man? We have been engaging in unprotected s*x, yet I am not pregnant by you. What does that tell you? That you are impotent!" Nini shouted, glaring at me. My heart ached at Nini's harsh words. I knew that I was not capable as a man, but I at least provided for her and her family's needs. "Nini, we have been dating for five years now. Why do you want to call it quits because of this? We can seek medical assistance. You will have my child," I said, uncertain but approaching her. Nini yelled, "Do not come any closer to me! You are an impotent man. What is the point of having all these millions when you cannot get a woman pregnant? I cannot continue with you! I only accepted your ring at the hotel last night because I did not want to embarrass you, but I cannot be with you. You should look for a barren woman to marry, not me!" Nini shouted, not caring that her words were breaking my heart. "Nini, please calm down. You know that I love you very much. I have done everything to support you and your family. I paid your university tuition fees. You cannot break up with me now," I pleaded, but she narrowed her eyes at me. "Bright, tell me how much you spent on me? I will make a refund. This is my life that I am talking about here! My future. I cannot spend the rest of my life with you. And do not come after me again, we are over. Completely over! Besides, I gave you my body in these past five years that we have known each other. So take that as payment for all the money that you spent on me. But I cannot take this ring. I need a real man who will make me feel like a woman, not an incompetent CEO like yourself!" Nini shouted, turned, and darted out of my office, leaving my world turning black. I loved Nini Andre. I did everything to make her happy. But recently, I do not know how she found out that I am impotent. I had not discussed it with her yet, but she insists on having a child before we marry. I returned to my office chair to resume my work, as the time was past 4 pm. However, I could not focus on anything. My mind continued to replay Nini's harsh words. I am a 31-year-old man who had been dating her since I was 26. Sighing, I turned off my computer and picked up my phone to call my best friends, Sunny Howard and Gabriel Jefferson. "Hello, Sunny, are you free tonight?" I asked, and he apologized. "I am sorry, Bright. I have an important client to meet tonight and cannot hang out with you. Why not call Gabriel?" I frowned, feeling like the world was turning its back on me. "That's fine. I will call Gabriel now," I said before ending the call with Sunny. I then placed a call to Gabriel, asking him to hang out with me. "Hello, Gabriel. Can you hang out with me tonight?" I asked, and he paused to inquire, "Where? Why not call your girlfriend to hang out with you?" My heart ached at the reminder of Nini and how bluntly she had cut me off, warning me not to go after her. "Nini broke up with me and returned my engagement ring," I told Gabriel, and he gasped, "What? That bìtch! I already knew she didn't want to marry you. Didn't you see the way she was behaving after you gave her the ring? She was reluctant to accept you!" Gabriel was seething with rage, and I could feel his anger over the phone. "It's okay, Gabriel. I hold no grudge against Nini. She says that I am not man enough, and she doesn't want me," I said, and the call went silent for a while. "Are you sure you want to hang out at a club? You just need to relax and calm down and maybe try to reach out to her to know if she is serious about breaking up with you. Besides, you have done so much for her. You helped her family, and now she wants to quit the relationship with you?" Gabriel was angry, and I understood him. "Gabriel, let it slide. Nini will surely come back to me. She cannot do without money. So she will come to beg me," I told him, and he sighed. "Alright. I will see you tonight at the Blues Clubhouse. Time, 6 pm," Gabriel said, and I felt better. "Alright. I am still at the company. Once I close, I will head to the Blues," I told him, and he replied, "Alright. I will see you there." My phone call with Gabriel ended, and I received a call from my stepmother, Eden. "Hello, Mom," I greeted her, and she asked, "Bright, what's going on? I heard that Nini Andre has ended her engagement with you? Why would she do that?" Shutting my eyes painfully, I replied, "It's her choice. How am I supposed to know?" "How can you say that you do not know why your own girlfriend broke up with you? Anyway, you have to come home today. Your father insists," she said, and my brows furrowed. "I am in no mood to come home. How about tomorrow? I will be at home," I told her, as it was Friday. I needed some time to relax and unwind. My stepmother, Eden, did not really like me, and I was sure she was celebrating now that my fiancée had called off our engagement. "Fine," she said and ended the call. I then got ready to leave my office and hang out with Gabriel at the Blues Club.
