I didn't expect Claire's water would break while I was overseas attending that damn board meeting. According to the doctor's previous diagnosis, we still had more than two weeks before her due date. Before boarding the plane, I'd calculated everything perfectly—finish my work abroad quickly and return to be with her for the birth of our child.
