Hailey was sitting on the couch with Sean and Kimmie when the doorbell rang. “Who is that?” Sean asked confused to which Hailey shrugged and got up to see. Finding a girl she’d never seen before, Hailey slowly opened the door, “Ugh, hi?” The girl on her doorstep was gorgeous.
White, she was slim thicc, with a head of reddish-brown curls bouncing down to her breast. Big hazel eyes set to destroy, she looked at Hailey like she was scared. “Ummm, hi?” Hailey raised an eyebrow as the young girl continued to stare at her scared. “Okay, how can I help you? Do I know you?”
It was as her mouth said it, Hailey saw it, “Um, yeah, no, not really...I’m Serenity Coal. Um...I’m your little sister?"
Hailey didn’t know what to say to that, and as she blinked for a second, she mumbled, “Ugh...hi?” Serenity gasped out a nervous laugh, biting her full bottom lip, she asked, “H-h-hi? C-can I come in?” Hailey slowly nodded and let her in.
In minutes, Hailey was staring at her half-sister like a Martian as Sean and Kimberly looked between the two. It was silent, the movie having been paused as the dramatic reunion unfolding was entertaining enough.
Silence. And then, "You’re pretty!” Kimberly suddenly blurted out. Serenity blushed at Kimberly and cooed back, “You’re even prettier.” Kimberly grinned all dimples and cuteness as Serenity looked at her sister eagerly, “My niece?”
Sean was expecting a hard denial as was Kimberly having both sadly gotten used to it. But they were surprised to hear, “Working on it.” When they both looked at her, they got a cute wink and Sean was smiling as Hailey asked sweetly, “Can you run to Da Vincci's for a pizza? I need to talk to her...alone.” Sean nodded understanding and kissed her head, “I’ll swing by the froyo shop too.”
When he was gone moments later, Serenity smiled shyly, “He’s hot, and she’s adorable. I’d cuff both of them down.” Hailey laughed breathlessly, “Yeah, I am. But you didn’t come over here to talk about my soon-to-be mini family.”
Hailey could see the sixteen-year-old girl was nervous as she asked, “Does Walter know you’re here?” Serenity winced, “Ugh, no. No, I don’t have anything to do with him.” Confused, Hailey asked confused, “What? Aren’t your mom and Walter still married?”
Serenity snorted in disgust, “Ew, no. Not since I was 5. They can’t stand each other; my mom has a restraining order against him.” Surprised, Hailey wanted to ask more questions.
But Serenity looked at her, drinking her in, and Hailey suddenly didn’t want to talk about that prick. She had ANOTHER sister. And while this one had her eyes, she felt no different from Cleo. Just younger.
“So... you’re sixteen, right?” Serenity nodded as she blushed a little, “Yeah, and you’re eighteen?” Hailey nodded, “Yeah, I am.” Both smiled at each other, and Serenity burst into giggles. “Sorry, I just kind of always wanted a sister. So this is pretty cool, I have an older sister going into college.”
Talking as they caught up on each other’s personalities and who they were as people, Serenity seemed so sweet. All doe-eyed and innocent, Hailey was sure she’d have the same shine if her mother wasn’t such a dumpster fire of issues.
Hailey wanted to spend all night in the bubble of sisterhood and everything okay. But she had a feeling it wasn't.
Which made it hard for Hailey to say to her, “Serenity...did Walter send you here?” Serenity looked at her older sister a little scared, “Yeah, in a way.” Heart racing, Hailey ripped the band-aid off, “I already told him, I’m not saving him. I know he’s your father, probably a good one to you, but I don’t care about him. Not enough to give him a kidney.”
Serenity looked at Hailey angry, “What?” Hailey winced as she admitted, “He was here a few weeks ago-.” The fury in the young girl’s eyes was something scary. “He came here!? God he such a f*****g monster. Mama thought you’d be safe, said he cared about your mama the most.”
Hailey started to ask but Serenity didn’t need prompting, “Hailey, our father is an asshole. He doesn’t have kidney failure or Lupus or whatever he told you. He’s fine.”
Scared now, Hailey asked, “T-then, wait no!” Swallowing hard, Hailey forced it out, “Walter came over here all frightened and scared saying he needed a kidney or he’d die. Why would he do that?”
Hailey blew out a deep breath as she confessed, “Because our father is about to be prosecuted for illegal dealings in shady transactions. He’s cut town, and he wanted to make a few more shady transactions before he did.”
Hailey looked at her sister with a slack jaw who whispered, “He wanted to sell another kidney on the black market like he’s done to two other people.” Hailey’s eyes widened as Serenity calmly explained, “From what the F.B.I agent told us, dad jumped on a private charter three days ago and no one knows where he went. Just that he coerced four children he’d fathered into doing the procedure, sold their organs, and left.”
Sure her head was leaking now with this information, Hailey wondered, “So wait, I have 5 other siblings?” Serenity shook her head in near tears, “No, we had five other siblings.”
