RALI The air was stale, smelling unfamiliar. My body felt foreign, heavy, as though gravity had doubled its grip on me. My eyes still closed, I groaned, my head pounding with a full ache. How long have I been sleeping—was the first question that echoed in my foggy mind as I blinked against the dim light. I should be in bed. But it didn't feel like I was lying in bed. The uncomfortable position and the taut pull at my arms told me I was far from the safety of my room. My pulse spiked as the events from earlier slammed into my memory like a runaway train. Gunshots. Adam. Blood. The monster. A labored wheeze escaped my throat, and my eyes snapped open to the grim reality around me.
