I knew it.
The second I saw the way he looked at her, I knew it.
Stephen has never looked at me like that.
Not confused, obsessed.
Obsession is worse than love.
I’m parked across the street from her apartment building.
I’ve been here for twenty minutes.
I told myself I just wanted to see where she lives.
That’s all.
But when her car pulls in, my fingers tighten around the steering wheel.
She gets out like she owns the ground.
Calm. Collected. Like she didn’t just walk out of his mother’s house.
Stephen hasn’t answered my calls since this afternoon.
He never ignores me.
Unless he’s thinking about her.
I step out of the car before I can talk myself out of it.
