Third Person's POV Mortimer swallowed hard. He quietly looked away, lowering his head with a bitter, self-deprecating smile. He forced the profound loneliness and sharp pain in his eyes back into the shadows. After Mortimer stepped off the stage, the heads of a few other departments gave brief speeches and shared their outlook for the new year. Once they wrapped up, the host announced for everyone to take their seats for the banquet. The seating arrangements had all been meticulously planned out with name cards, so everyone just needed to sit in their designated spots. But of course, someone just had to cause a scene.
