(Darius) Garrick’s massive wolf lunged at me, his fangs snapping inches from my throat. I barely managed to twist out of the way. The sword nicked his shoulder again, but he didn’t even flinch. He was too fast, too strong, and he knew it. I tightened my grip on my sword. My body ached, I could barely lift my arms from the fight, but I wasn’t backing down. Garrick growled, circling me, his dark eyes locked onto mine. He wanted me dead. But I wanted the same for him. He lunged again, faster this time. I barely brought my sword up in time, the blade cutting across his side as he slammed into me. The impact knocked the air from my lungs, sending me crashing to the ground.
