8. Tension and Security.

I woke up to an empty bed, Mason was no longer by my side and understandable, the pack was yet again on another attack and as Alpha he was required to be there for them.

I stood up immediately and rushed to the bathroom, as the shower poured water down my body I wondered if he was having regrets choosing me as his mate.

I was not a wolf and I did not understand many things that was required of a Luna, I barely supported him and I wasn't even awake most of the time when he needed me.

"Where's everyone?" I asked Nana when I left the shower, she had brought breakfast to me in bed.

"In a closed down meeting." She said, "They've been there for hours now."

"Hours you say?" If she was correct that would mean that Mason had gotten up from bed earlier than I imagined.

"Yes, my Luna, the Alpha asked me to send this up, he said you were extra tired from working on spells." She said and winked at me.

"You're so bad." I laughed at her and took the tray from her.

"Not when my room is directly below yours and I have perfectly good hearing." She said and I laughed again.

"I'm sorry if we disturbed your sleep." I said and she shook her head.

"Not a problem at all, we all cannot wait for you to start having pups for the Alpha." She said and left.

Pups?

Sh*t I did not think about that, we had been having s*x without protection, last night there was no protection.

I teased up and pressed my hand against my flat belly, I wasn't yet ready to be a mother.

Was that why Mason wasn't bothered about not using protection?

Was that what he expected of me, to start having children?

I turned to the food on the tray, my appetite suddenly gone.

Nana's food normally made my mouth water but this time I did not feel any appeal towards the food.

"Do you need me?" I asked Mason in mind link.

"Always." He replied immediately. "Don't go to work today, we have much to discuss, call and ask for the week off."

"Okay." I told him, there was indeed much for us to talk about.

Especially the issue of a pup, I didn't want to have a child yet, so I didn't want us to be reckless anymore.

I picked up my phone and dialed Sarah's number, if there was anyone who could help me right now, she was the one.

"Hello Sarah."

"Hi, wait, don't tell me you're not coming in to work today." She said.

"I'm sorry, Sarah, I am not." I told her.

"Are you alright, Jade?" She asked me, genuine concern in her tone.

"I'm fine, I'm just dealing with some family issues and I can't come to work throughout this week." I told her crossing my fingers for luck.

"This week?" Her voice rattled the phone in my hand. "It must be pretty serious then." She said softly.

Sarah was such a caring woman.

"I'll be fine, Sarah, please cover for me and hopefully if I still have a job next week, I'll see you." I said.

"If you ever want to talk about it, Jade, I'm here for you." She said and I was touched by her concern.

I really needed someone to talk to but I could never talk to her, she was human, she couldn't understand.

*Thank you, Sarah, I know." I told her.

"I could come over, if you just give me your address." She told me.

"That's not necessary, we can meet up sometime during the week, my house is too far, too much of an inconvenience." I hoped that would be enough of an excuse for her.

I couldn't invite her over to the mansion, it would be too weird to explain why I was working at the store when I lived in a mansion and was surrounded by so much wealth.

"That would be perfect, take care of yourself, Jade." She said,

"Thank you, Sarah, you're a very good person."

"John is going to be so pissed." She laughed loudly.

"I'm counting on it." I laughed with her and then I ended the call.

I opened the door to go downstairs and I was surprised to see two extra guards standing at the door.

"Good morning, Luna." They greeted me and I replied to them.

I walked past them and they followed behind me.

"Is there a problem?" I turned back and asked them.

"No." They replied in unison.

"Then why are you following me?" I asked.

"The Alpha has assigned us to look out for your safety." One of them said,

"Safety?" I looked at them in annoyance. "What are your names?"

"I'm Carter and he's Damon." The one who spoke up said.

"Okay, fine, I'm going to sort this out with the Alpha seeing as you cannot exactly reject his orders but this— I gestured between the three of us— is not going to work." I said and turned back.

"Carter and Damon?" I mind linked Mason angrily.

"Just another thing we'll have to discuss." He replied and dismissed the matter.

I walked downstairs and I noticed how a lot of things security wise had changed, they were doubling up security and being cautious.

My mind wandered back to what Jee had said, the attack wasn't going to be physical but I guess it still made sense to be cautious.

I decided to go see my mother so I went to the east wing of the mansion because that was where Sirius' quarters were and since she was his mate, she had moved in with him as I moved in with Mason and Jay with Liya.

There were four guards at the door when I got there, just like there had been four guards at my door this morning.

"Mom, good morning, so nice to see you." I greeted her as I entered the room.
