JULIAN and Violet were standing side by side as they waited for the chopper to land.
The night before, she informed the alpha that they would have guests in the morning. She told him that they were her associates and sponsors at work.
Since Violet arrived in the territory, help has been pouring in from her colleagues and associates who were also part of the werewolf community.
Trusting her, they were on the field when the clock struck nine in the morning.
“How did you meet these people again?”
She and Julian did not have much time to talk and dwell on their whereabouts in the past ten years. In one way or another, Violet has been accepted into the pack not as the old member but rather, an aid associated with the current alpha. The reception towards her was nothing but civil.
Violet was fine with it. She accepted nothing less.
“The one riding that one was my sponsor in college and med school. I learned about it when I did my first stint in Europe under Cure-Aid International.” She disclosed mentioning the organization where she was connected.
In her heart, she was hoping that her brother did not have a faint heart when he recognize the person inside the aircraft. Yet, this was her comeback for what he did yesterday in the infirmary.
“I’m still in awe of how you become a doctor after you run away. You basically erased all the records in the laptop when you left.”
“Because I don’t want to be found, Julian. Even if you open my emails, the initial school where I applied for college, I did not enroll there, but I used the subjects I took there when I went to the university where I finished my pre-med.”
“I get it that you are very, very smart, V. You even started on several electives before you get to college. We checked several Ivy League schools, and you were not enrolled there. Well, since there was no Lauren Vee Gray at all.”
She smiled at the sarcasm in his tone, but she did not respond to his rants. She owed him a decade of conversation.
“Where did you get your pre-med?”
“Budapest.”
“W-what?”
Saved by the landing of the chopper, their attention went to the aircraft and the person who went out of the door.
“What the f----”
Julian’s voice flew with the wind. A smirk formed on Violet’s lips.
“Gotcha, Julian.” She muttered before nodding at the woman approaching them.
“My favorite scholar is here.” The blue-eyed woman pronounced cheerfully.
Violet smiled. She heard the woman despite the loud sound created by the halting rotor blade of the chopper.
They shook hands, but the older woman chose to give her a quick hug. Her back was pat like an old friend.
“Hello, Alpha Julian. I am Solana Petrov.” The half-bred announced and held out her hand.
“I, I know.” The male alpha said.
His eyes were wide, and it was clear that he was stupefied at the sight of the woman in front of him.
They shook hands.
“Oh, this boy has a crush on me, Summer.”
To the male alpha’s embarrassment, Solana grinned at him. On the other hand, Summer drew near with a scowl on her face.
“How are you, kid?”
Smiling widely, she shook Summer’s hand.
“I’m good. Thank you for coming.”
“She did not want me to come, but I insisted. Either I am coming or she’s going to come here with Sabrina. She chose wisely and even volunteered to fly that thing.”
The three of them knew that ‘Sabrina’ meant using teleportation.
Violet witnessed it a few times in the past but has never tried it. Afraid to try was the right word.
Summer rolled her eyes at Solana’s statement.
“We have the meds that you specifically requested. It’s in the cooler.”
“Thank you.”
“She was also here through the request of the high alpha.” Summer revealed. “Emma is indisposed.”
“Speaking of the high alpha, Alpha Julian, I was asked to visit your territory to assess the damage of the attack. He already read your report, by the way.” Solana said, back in business.
The two alphas walked back to the pack house as they talked about pack business.
“How did your parents take it?”
She and Summer went in the direction of the infirmary. Each was holding a Coleman that contained medications.
“I haven’t seen my father yet. I had a visit from my mother yesterday. I had an earful.”
“That’s an understatement. You deserved it, I guess.”
“I know.”
“Every parent worries about their kids.”
“I just got lucky that you found me.”
“Not much of a worry. You’re a very big boned woman, V. Only a few will challenge you.”
Violet chuckled.
It was true. She was never robbed in her early days outside the pack. No one dared.
Cliche it may sound but she and Summer met in a convenience store.
She was having a cup of instant ramen. She was very hungry and cold.
It was starting to snow, and the money she saved for her ‘trip’ was thinning. Still, she has no job and a place to stay.
Summer was having coffee and sat beside her in the store.
The woman must be a goddess sent to save her from herself that day.
For some unknown reason, she felt no resistance when the golden-eyed woman offered her a sandwich. Starving, she immediately accepted the food.
It was the day she was taken out of the street. That very night, she slept in bed at Artemis.
When Summer learned of her story and what she wanted to do, the woman helped her.
She was able to change her name and legally use Violet Woods in all of her documents.
Good things started to come after she met the golden-eyed woman.
She got scholarships that sent her to an international school that took in medical students. She was able to volunteer and practice medicine in different places.
She got what she wanted. All because of one woman who paved the way for her.
Only later, when she learned, it was Solana Petrov who financed her education. She owed it to the half-bred. However, Solana did not want anything from her. The older woman only told her to pay it forward.
In lieu with it, she has been wandering in the world practicing and helping people in need so that her mentor and sponsor will be proud of her, much less regret paying for her education.
“Some of my friends were asking how they can help you.”
“Who?”
“The Strange wanted to know if you are interested in upping the security.”
She grinned.
Security First under former Alpha Winona Strange, was the best in the market.
“As much as I wanted to hire them, I have no means financially.” She laughed. “I might be a doctor, but my money was from the goodness of the sponsors’ hearts. Besides, I have to ask the alpha if he wants to get their services.”
“F*ck the money. It was for free, V.”
Violet laughed out loud. “How did I get so lucky?”
“When you have proven yourself, Kid. You deserved a seat at our table when you have given more than you received.”
Her mouth opened, but she was unable to say anything when she grasped what Summer had said.
She remained on her feet as she watched the person who saved her more than once since they met.
“Hey, I don’t know your place. It would be best if you jumped out of the cloud.” Summer howlered when she noticed that Violet was left behind.
Violet blinked her eyes a few times to remove the unshed tears that were about to fall. Summer’s words mean a lot. Rather, the golden-eyed woman’s compliment and approval meant a lot to her.
In her mind, she cannot thank her enough for all those years that she took her under her wings.
