As lunchtime arrived, I found myself pleasantly surprised when the packhouse cook entered the room, bearing two steaming hot meals for us to enjoy. While Alpha Asher had seemed to anticipate this generous gesture, I certainly hadn’t, and my heart swelled with gratitude toward the cook for this unexpected treat. The cook flashed me a warm, inviting smile that radiated kindness, his eyes crinkling at the corners. After a brief moment, he turned his attention to Alpha Asher and, with a respectful nod, quickly ushered himself out of the room, leaving us in a cozy bubble of delicious aromas. Just as I began to savor the moment, the door creaked open once more, this time revealing Cole, who hobbled into the room on crutches. His determined expression brought a sense of warmth and familiarity.
