The Test Results Are....

2000 Words
Jameson POV    The next couple of days were two of the longest ones of my life. After Jessup left, we’d gone straight over to the clinic to have our cheeks swabbed for the DNA test. They’d also drawn some blood to send along, in case it was needed for anything.     I spent the next couple of days catching up on some reading, while Jonathan went to work with Dave to get a better feel of the patrols. As much as I loved my brother, it was honestly good to have a few hours apart. We may be twins, but in normal circumstances we don’t necessarily spend 24/7 attached at the hip, which is basically what we’d been doing ever since we left home.    I did help Linda around the house as much as she would let me. She was used to doing the housework more or less by herself – she told me that, while she appreciated the help, I was interrupting her routine. When she told me that, I would go into the next room and find another task that needed doing so that I could help and not be in her way.       Finally, after what seemed like years, I got a text from King Sebastien. Actually, I should say we got a text from King Sebastien, as he had sent it in a group text that included him, Jonathan, and me.    ‘Hello, boys!’ he texted. ‘The results of the tests are in. I would like to go over them with the two of you on video chat if that’s ok with you. I haven’t even looked at them myself.’    Jonathan, who had just gotten back to Dave and Linda’s house, responded for both of us. ‘That sounds great, Your Majesty. Dave and Linda have gone out for dinner so we’re the only ones here right now.’    ‘Perfect,’ he responded. ‘Calling now.’    Jonathan’s phone almost immediately rang, indicating an incoming video call. He answered, and I moved over to where he was sitting on the couch. King Sebastien was sitting at a desk, smiling into the camera with a couple pieces of paper in his hand.     “Hello, boys!” he greeted us. “Nice to see your faces again.”    “Hello, Your Majesty!” we greeted him at the same time.     “It’s nice to see you again too,” I added, and Jonathan nodded his agreement.     “Well, let’s look at these results, shall we?” King Sebastien got straight to the point.     “Yes, please!” Jonathan agreed.    “We’ve been on pins and needles for the last couple days,” I added.    King Sebastien laughed. “Me too. I’ve had to make excuses about business meeting or the like to Queen Havannah, because I knew if I was around her for more than five minutes, I’d blurt everything out. I’ve never been good at keeping secrets from her.” He cleared his throat as he unfolded the piece of paper he was holding. “Why can’t they write these things in plain English? How is a person supposed to decipher all this medical jargon? It’s so – oh. Oh my. There it is.” His hands started to shake slightly, and I saw tears glistening in his eyes as he turned the paper around where we could read it for ourselves. “There it is,” he repeated. “Right there in black and white. Do you see it?”    We did indeed. There, in about the middle of the page, it very clearly said, “DNA Test Results: Match. The samples provided are that of parent and child.” Or something along those lines. Honestly, even though I’d been expecting it, seeing the proof there in front of me sent a shock wave through my system. It was true. It was all true. We were Lycans, our father was a king, meaning that our mother was a queen, and we were royal crown princes. One look over at Jonathan confirmed that he was feeling the same.     Finally, after several seconds, King Sebastien broke the silence. “I-I can’t believe it,” he said, his voice choked with emotion. “After all these years. After all these years, the search is finally over. I can’t believe it. I have to go tell your mother. Oh my. Your mother. It’s been a lot of years since I spoke those words.”    “I can’t wait to see her,” I spoke up. “I - well, I mean, we have our mother that raised us, but now, well, now we get to have two sets of parents. I – wow. I really don’t know what to say.”    Jonathan, who seemed to have recovered somewhat from the shock, grinned at King Sebastien. “I have a question,” he told him.     “What’s that?” the king asked.     “Do we still have to call you Your Majesty?” he quipped.     That broke the tension that we’d all been feeling since the beginning of the call. The three of us all started laughing.     “No,” King Sebastien replied while he laughed. “No, son, you don’t. I understand if you don’t feel comfortable calling me Dad just yet, but at the very least you can call me Sebastien.”    “And when do we get to meet Queen Havannah?” I asked.     “I’m pretty sure she’ll tell you to drop the ‘Queen’ part of that, or call her Mom,” he told us. “And, how about now?”    We both smiled. “No time like the present,” I replied.     “Hold on,” he told us. He turned away and pressed a button on an intercom sitting on the desk next to him. “Hey honey?”    “Yes, sweetheart?” came a sweet-sounding feminine voice.     “Would you mind coming in here for a minute please? I have something I need to show you,” he told her. How he kept the excitement out of his voice, I’ll never know.    A couple minutes later, we heard a door open.     “What is it, baby?” the same feminine voice asked, this time much clearer since it wasn’t coming through the intercom speaker.    He held out a hand to her. “Come here, honey. I’d like you to meet someone.”    And, a second later, there she was. A beautiful, fair skinned woman with silky looking blonde hair that flowed down to her waistline leaned over to kiss Sebastien on the cheek before turning to smile at us on the screen.    “Hello,” she greeted us with a smile. “I’m Queen Havannah.”    Sebastien spoke before either of us could. “My love, I would like to reintroduce you to someone you’ve met before. You just haven’t seen them in about fifteen years.”    She looked at him with confusion, but within a couple seconds, I saw understanding start dawning in her eyes. “Wait, wait,” she gasped, “i-is this....this can’t be....oh. Oh! Is - ?” She stopped, her hand flying to her mouth as tears filled her eyes.    “Yes, my baby,” Sebastien told her, his own joyful tears flowing out of his eyes. “This is exactly who you think it is. I’d like you to say hello to Jameson and Jonathan. Our babies are alive and well and you’re looking at them!”     He handed her the paper, but she couldn’t tear her eyes away from the screen long enough to look at it. Her hand remained over her mouth, which was still hanging open in shock, as the tears began flowing from her emerald green eyes.     Finally, she managed to speak. “Oh. Oh my. I c-can't believe this. I – you're sure about this?” She looked at Sebastien as she asked the question.     He nodded. “Look at the paper, sweetheart. Tested at our own lab. They’re ours.”    “Hello, Havannah,” I finally piped up. “It’s all true. We’re your sons, and we’re coming home.”  “Hello, Havannah,” Jonathan spoke next. “We’re beyond excited to finally get to see you.”  She sniffled. “Oh. Oh, my babies. I still can’t believe this. I can’t wait to have you in my arms!”  Sebastien smiled at her. I could see the love that he had for her shining in his eyes, and that made me smile. “Can you tell them apart, my dear?” he asked her.  “You know, all these years later, I still remember the little freckle on Jameson’s neck,” she told him with a watery laugh. “So yes, I know which is which. That’s Jameson, and that’s Jonathan.” She pointed at each of us as she said our names, and she was correct. I was impressed.  “Where are you boys?” she asked us. “How long before I get to hold my babies in my arms again?”  “Colorado,” I told her. “We’ll be leaving in the morning to head to Maine.”  “Flying?” she asked hopefully.  Jonathan shook his head. “No. We briefly thought about having a wizard we met recently teleport us there, but our Lycans are telling us that we need to drive, that there’s something pulling us.”  She smiled. “Probably your mate. Oh, wow. The last time I laid eyes on you, you were three years old, and now you’re old enough to find your mate. This is just – wow. I can’t believe it. This is all happening so fast!”  We talked for a little while longer, filling Havannah – who, as predicted, insisted that we either call her Havannah or Mom – in on some of the details we knew about the kidnapping and how our lives had been since then. Judging from her reaction when we confirmed that it was, indeed, her brother-in-law that kidnapped us, I would hate to be in his place when she finally lays eyes on him.   ‘Everyone talks about Mama Bears,’ Donovan spoke up, joining the conversation for the first time. ‘Well, Mama Bears don’t hold a candle to Mama Lycans. That man is a dead man walking. She will kill him if she gets even half a chance.’  ‘I hope she does,’ I told him. ‘He would deserve it.’  ‘Agreed.’  Another thing we discussed with them was travel plans. We decided that, for safety reasons, we would do our best to keep the news of our being found away from anyone outside of family, and the pack members here that already knew. Sebastien and Havannah were anxious about the two of us travelling from Colorado to Maine without any royal guards, but, as we pointed out to them, the chances of anyone recognizing us as the lost princes was slim to none, since the only pictures anyone had seen were pictures of us as three year olds. In the end, we convinced them that we would be fine to travel on our own after pointing out that the presence of royal guards would be a dead giveaway to our identities.  After we finally finished our conversation with them, Jonathan turned to look at me.   “Well, bro, how does it feel to be related to the most handsome royal crown prince that ever lived?” he joked, obviously trying to dispel some of the nervous energy in the room.    It worked. I laughed, and I could feel the tension dissipating. “I don’t know, bro. You’ll have to tell me.”  He laughed, and gave me a quick hug.   The door opened right about then, and Dave and Linda came in looking relaxed and happy after their dinner date. It was time to tell them that they had indeed achieved Linda’s dream of helping to find the lost Lycan princes.
