Morana’s POV
“No!” I aggressively declined. “I’ve been through that before and proven myself already!”
Finally, Tristan and I both agreed on this part. He protectively grabbed Violet’s hand. “No! That is an unfair way to do it! My daughter didn’t go through any training!”
“But–” One of the elders was about to argue, but Violet beat them into it.
Suddenly, she pulled her wrist from her father’s grasp and pleasingly looked at Logan. “I’ll do it! Please, Logan, I can do it. As long as you give me the opportunity, I’ll do it. All I want is a chance.”
I huffed, completely exasperated, especially when Logan and Violet stared at each other as if the world only revolved around them.
A few seconds later, he sighed in defeat, saying in an Alpha tone, “Alright, the Luna Game will begin tomorrow. Make the preparations.”
Fuck this mate bond!
“Morana!” Logan roared after the deafening sound of a slap echoed in the woods' empty vicinity.
As soon as we left the meeting, we went to the woods. Once I was sure we were alone, that’s when I let my fury radiate off of me.
I slapped him! He might be an alpha, but he’s much husband and chosen mate. There’s no way I’d let him be after what he did.
Pointing a finger at him while I glared at him with blazing eyes, I cursed, “You should’ve just f*****g rejected her!”
He was holding his cheek with a red mark that was slowly subsiding, glaring at me with the same intensity after his authority as an alpha had been challenged. “I am still your alpha, Morana. And stop being short-sighted! Look at the bigger picture. Just like Tristan, I wanted to avoid having any wars that can bring who-knows how many casualties, for goodness sake!”
Dumbfounded, I stared at him. Pain was cursing through every inch of my body while betrayal glinted in my misty eyes.
Bitterly, I let out a small laugh filled with nothing but pain. Shaking my head, I uttered in disbelief and calmness out of exhaustion. “How stupid can you be? Tristan won’t dare launch a war for the sake of people. You, of all people who’ve been in countless battles, knew enough to know inside stories about Tristan.”
He stood frozen and speechless in there, staring at me with confusion and haze. But my heart was already bleeding, and there was no way I’d give him - or anyone else - the chance to see me in further pain.
No, I’m way stronger than that. Hence, I walked back into our room with pursed lips and an ice-cold demeanor.
“What happened to us, Logan?” I whispered in thin air that filled our empty and cold room. Memories of our happy moments flashed before my eyes, and I drifted into a deep sleep—alone… Logan didn’t come back for the night.
I was in a deep slumber, with nothingness but darkness, that was until an excruciating pain suddenly radiated all over my body. It’s like thousands of pins were being struck in my skin, and an iron hand clutching my chest.
Gasping for air, I hastily woke up and sat up from my bed. I shouted while fisting my hands on the covers of the bed, wrinkling it until the corners got unwrapped from the mattress.
“f*****g asshole! f**k both of them!” I roared as uncontrollable tears streamed down my cheeks. There’s only one reason why I felt this way. Logan… he’s with her. And who knew what they were doing right now…
How intimate could they’ve gone? Did they… make love?
The mere thought of it was a knife in my chest. I couldn’t believe he could do this to me.
Fifteen minutes… That deadly pain lasted in me for fifteen minutes. Wiping my tears off with the back of my hand, I huffed with sarcasticness, “Good, they must had fun!”
***
The moment the sunrise came into view, everyone became busy preparing for the Luna game. A game that tests not only one’s strength but also one's judgment, knowledge, and empathy. It’s a cruel game that plays with contenders' bodies, hearts, and minds.
“Everyone, are you all ready for the Luna Game?” Finley, one of the elders, hosted the game. He stood at the platform, in the middle of all the elders, with a mic in his hand.
Instantly, the crowd went wild. “To start, let me present to you the first contender who’ll be challenging our current Luna, Violet Harrison! Of Hallow Hunters Pack!”
“What?” I asked in my mind, my blood once again boiled in fury.
The venue instantly fell silent while Finely stammered to keep hosting. “A-and-t-together with her, Alpha Logan Benette!”
“Now, for our current Luna, I’d like to present Luna Morana Griffins-Benette!” I walked to the front where they were, holding my head high and my body upright, and welcomed the loud cheers from our pack’s loyal warriors.
“M-morana… I…” he started whispering at me as he followed me back to the tent, where the first game was being prepared.
Pursing my lips, I sternly said, “Save it!”
When I didn’t hear him speak again, I narrowed my eyes and looked back, only to see him still following me. He gave me a smile, but I didn’t mind him. I kept walking to stop and greet the warriors, who immediately showed their support by cheering.
“Luna Morana for the win! Luna Morana!”
Smiling, I shook my head in amusement. “Now, now, now, settle down, pups,” I teased, but they calmed down nonetheless.
Logan placed his hand on the back of my waist and smiled with pride at the warriors. “Thank you for supporting your Luna, guys.”
“Yeah, of course, we had to keep them in check as to which Luna they should be siding with. The Alpha himself was out there showcasing another woman.” I heard one of the pack warriors murmuring.
“Ah—maybe we should . . .” I pursed my lips in and out, unable to come up with anything to stop him from punishing these guys because it looked to me like he’s inches away from ripping off their mouths.
I mentally rolled my eyes. It’s not like they’re wrong, though. Logan was fixed on being with Violet’s side the moment he decided to accompany her instead of me.
“What, are any of you forgetting who you should be kneeling in front of?” Logan growled. I, including all the other pack warriors, flinched at the authority their Alpha held.
I clenched my teeth, trying to stop his ominous aura from affecting me.
I couldn’t believe he’s using his position to intimidate everyone right now.
The pack warriors begrudgingly bared their necks in submission. I sighed, turning away from him and everyone else.
“I’m going to get dressed,” I uttered in annoyance and left, going straight to enter my tent.
I didn’t know him anymore. He wasn’t the same loving and principled man I grew up with anymore. He’s just… I don’t know… He was so drawn to Violet that he wasn’t being rational any more. All his love and care for me seemed to have vanished just like that in an instant.
Moments later, he caught up with me and closed the tent. Thankfully, the tent was made of dark, thick fabric, so no one would see us fighting.
“It’s not what you think. I got drunk last night, so…” he started to explain, and the excuse he used just happened to be the most infuriating one.
Turning around, I stared at him with deadly eyes, continuing his words, “So you went on and met Violet? For what? So you can f**k her? Is that it?”
“That’s not what happened, okay? It’s just a coincidence that we met. A-and I did not lose control,” he insisted.
Skeptically, I only smiled and shook my head.
“You have to believe me. I only love you and no one else,” he said before swiftly wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me to his hot and sexy body.
“W–” Before I could protest, he hastily leaned down and devoured my lips with his.
My heart skipped a beat, and the butterflies in my stomach instantly went wild as he nibbled and sucked on my lips and mouth as if he had been starving for me for so long.
Damn! This wasn’t how this was supposed to go! I cursed myself as I started feeling his hand venturing all over my body until I lost control as he did as we let the pleasure overtake our bodies.
“Now, let the game begin!” Finelyn’s voice suddenly echoed in the entire venue.
Like I had been burned, I pushed him away and covered myself with a towel from a nearby stand, covering my naked body while panting.
“Get out!” I said, looking away from him.
He tried to touch me, but I moved away like he had some kind of plague. “I said leave!”
After fixing myself, I changed into my warrior clothes. A brown leather skinny pants, a white sleeveless shirt, and a black dramatic jacket.
“The Luna Game is composed of three sections: Knowledge and Judgement, Strength, and Emphaty. Contenders, you may now enter the secret room.” Finely announced.
“Good luck, Luna Morana,” Violet said in fake innocence before we entered together.
The first one was easy. It was merely like an ordinary, mundane escape room with clues of escape. In no time, I solved it, and we entered the next room: Strength.
A rectangular ring was positioned at the center. Obviously, it's where we would fight.
I smirked. “This is too easy.” Shifting my eyes on Violet, I narrowed my eyes to see her wearing a mask. “What’s the facade? Are you sure you don’t want to just bail out of this one?”
“I promised Logan I’ll do my best. I won’t back out.” Then, she’s the first to enter the ring.
Now, I’m pissed off.
I didn’t even wear any gear and just followed her. When the bell rang, we started circling each other, calculating when to strike.
“f**k! What did you do?” I angrily asked with gritted teeth as I coughed and held my chest.
Now I understood why she wore a mask. What a scheming b***h!
On her first punch, she knew I’d manage to avoid it, and she opened her palm filled with power. I’m positive about being a wolfsbane because I instantly felt my wolf being agitated, restless, and even weak.
She smirked before changing her expression as if she had been wronged. “Why do you need to be so selfish, Luna? Why must you separate two loving mates from each other because of your greed?”
Loving mates? What’s she on about?
