THEO AND ARTEMIS returned to the Polar City to evacuate the people. Though the Citadel had not yet broken, Rodolfo was already awake, and Theo could hear his breath. The great walls of the Polar City shimmered under a sky darkening with storm light. The wind wasn’t gentle. It raced sideways, and the air smelled of something wrong. Something dangerous that is yet to come. Theo stood at the highest balcony of the Polar Tower, his cloak rippling behind him as his blue-green eyes swept over the white horizon. A storm was coming, but not of wind or snow. It was unraveled magic and blood-bound curses buried beneath the ground.
