Chapter 18: The Betrayal Abdel ibn Zaid, lone survivor of the rimahniya assassins sworn to the destruction of Prince Ahmad, left Attan when the attack on the prince there failed. The prophet Muhmad had told him the prince’s itinerary, and he knew Ahmad and his party must proceed to Mount Denavan on the final leg of their journey. There, in the land sacred to Rimahn himself, would the assassin complete his mission and destroy this accursed prince once and for all. He rode steadily through the lands bordering the eastern edge of the Central Sea. Grim determination drove him now, and nothing would be allowed to come between him and his goal. When his horse, ridden to the point of exhaustion, fell and could not readily get up, ibn Zaid abandoned it and stole another one from a nearby town. I
