I closed the door to my suite, walking over to Tony who was pacing the hallway.
“He's asleep.” I stated, he stopped and turned to me.
“What's going on Adelaide? I have never seen Jacob like this.” He asked, his expression serious. I swallowed hard, not knowing how I was going to explain everything to him without sounding like a nut job. “And don't tell me everything is fine because it clearly isn't. Neither you nor the Prime are eating or sleeping since you returned from your trip.”
Were we really not sleeping?
Wait… when was the last time I actually slept?
I racked my brain thinking of it but nothing came to mind.
Now's not the time, Adelaide…
I focused on the man in front of me.
“You're right, everything isn't fine but this isn't the time for explanations. I know the pack must have sensed Jacob's rage and the freak lightning storm so I need you to make sure everyone stays calm, also clean the mess in Jacob’s room, alright?” I instructed, Tony nodded.
“You're right, I'll do just that. Please take care of…”
“What is going on here?”
I almost let out a groan as Christopher marched up to us. The last thing I needed was him added to the mix.
“Nothing, the Beta Prime and I were just having a discussion.” I replied, forcing a smile. He stared at me, a brow raised.
“Where is Jacob?”
“Resting.” I answered.
“Resting huh? I would like to see him, as the Alpha Prime’s advisor on security and defence, it is part of my duty to make sure he is alright, especially after the lightning storm that caused the power surge.”
“And like I said, he is resting.” I repeated, watching as his nostrils flared.
“I am…” he began but I had had enough of him.
“I know what you said Mr Caldwell, but like I have stated, he is resting and will not be disturbed under any circumstances. Good night.”
I turned to head back to my suite.
“It seems you do not understand how things happen in this pack, Adelaide.”
Give me the strength…
I turned to Tony.
“Tony”
He nodded, placing a hand on Christopher’s shoulder, steering him away from me. He shoved Tony's hand away, taking a step towards me.
“You will not treat me like this, I am a well respected mem—”
“And I am your Luna Prime!” I snapped, my lycan rising to the surface, I didn't need anyone to tell me my eyes had turned silver. “Not to mention an Alpha Prime in my own right, you will show me some respect!”
He clenched his jaw as he backed down, his head bowed.
“Apologies Prime.”
I ignored him, turning my attention to Tony.
“Make sure you carry out my instructions.”
“I will do that immediately, Prime.”
I nodded and headed back to my suite, ignoring the fool standing in front of me. Once I closed the door behind me, I leaned against it, letting out a shaky breath. There were so many things on my mind but right now, I needed to be there for Jacob, so I pushed all my worries to the back of my mind and walked over to the bed.
He was asleep and I was relieved that Christopher’s voice hadn't woken him up. I sat near him, brushing the hair away from his face. He looked so relaxed sleeping and it soothed the storm in my heart.
I pulled the blanket to the side and crawled in, laying my head on his shoulder, as if he could sense me in his sleep, his hand moved to my waist, the tips of his fingers grazing my lower abdomen, I felt a slight flutter and my breath hitched slightly as I remembered the countless times Jacob as Adar has placed his hand there, feeling our unborn children.
The thought brought tears to my eyes and I hurriedly blinked them away. I brought my hand down, placing it on top of his as I closed my eyes, lost in memories.

The sound of a door closing woke me up, I sat up, rubbing my eyes. It was morning already and Jacob was standing in the middle of my room. I could tell he had showered and had changed clothes.
“Good morning.” He said, fixing his cufflink.
“Good morning, how are you feeling?” I asked.
“I'm okay.” He replied but the slight tremor in his voice told me otherwise. I got out of bed and approached him.
“You don't have to lie to me.” I whispered, placing a hand on his arm. “Especially after last nig…”
“Don’t” he said, cutting me off.
“Jacob…”
He shook his head, taking a step away from me, his actions making my heart hurt.
“I… how can you even look at me? A-after what I did.”
What…
My brows knitted together as I tried to make sense of his words.
“What are you talking about? Jacob you did noth…”
“I killed your pack!!!” He snapped, his body trembling. My lips parted slightly as the sound of his ragged breathing filled the room. “I remember each kill, I- I can still taste their blood in my mouth… each scream, each life I h-had cut short…”
“Jacob… you didn't do that, you weren't in your right senses!! You were literally under the control of Eda.”
“I SHOULD HAVE FOUGHT HARDER!!” He snarled before he sagged to the chair behind me, his eyes haunted. “I should have fought the urge to destroy, to kill, to maim, I should have fought it harder.”
He looked up at me, the despair in his eyes was a punch to my guts, it took everything within me not to fall to the floor at the weight of his pain and sadness. I struggled over to him, sitting next to him. I pulled him into my arms, he wrapped his hands around my waist, his face buried in my chest.
“what happened that night, it wasn't your fault.”
I tightened my grip as I felt him try to pull away.
“No, I won't allow you to blame yourself.”
“But I killed them all… I killed your father, he loved me and I kill…” his voice broke and I felt wetness on my neck. I pressed my lips together to stop myself from crying.
“You are not to be blamed, what happened was unfortunate and you were used as a pawn by Eda.” I whispered, stroking his back. I finally allowed him to pull back after a few minutes, reaching up, I wiped the tears from his eyes, giving him a small smile.
He stared down at me, cupping my face.
“You are the best thing that happened to me, Adelaide.”
I slid my hand along his.
“Same here, even with all the tragedy that surrounds us, you have been my pillar of strength and I wouldn't change that for the world.”
He leaned closer, pressing a kiss to my forehead, just as he had done countless times.
“Do you know what I think?” He asked, his lips brushing against my skin.
“What?” I breathed, my eyes fluttering closed as pleasurable shivers ran through my skin.
“Our story is unlike any other—it wasn't written in the stars or decreed by a goddess. We created it ourselves."
I nodded.
“And we will dictate how it continues and ends, not the rest of the Primes, not Eda but us.” I whispered, he smiled, leaning down and capturing my lips with him.
I sighed into the kiss, wrapping my arms around his neck and sliding my fingers through his hair. His kiss was a balm on my aching heart, the world disappeared and with it, all the worries, all my fears… everything. I was young once more, writing letters to Adar with no weight around my neck.
“I have to see them! It is really important.”
“I’m sorry but the Luna Prime gave explicit instructions, they are not to be disturbed.”
Tony and another man’s voice reached us, I tried to ignore it and focus on Jacob’s lips against mine but their voices grew louder. Jacob growled against my lips, clearly annoyed with the interruption.
I got to my feet, he did the same and we walked over to the door, wrenching it open with the intention of clobbering them.
“What is going on?!” I demanded, Tony and the man jumped in shock before turning to us and bowing.
“Well?”
“Prime, Luna, this man was adamant on see…”
“I’m from the Mont Blanc Wolf Registry.” the man said, cutting Tony off. Jacob and I glanced at each other, wondering why someone from the Registry was here.
“What's the matter?”
“We have been monitoring an irregular migration of wolves, they seem to have appeared from nowhere and are many in number.” He explained.
What?...
“How long have you been monitoring this?” Jacob asked.
“More than a week”
That’s close to the time we came back from Iceland.
“Do you know where they are heading?” Jacob inquired. The man looked back to his papers, flipping pages before staring at us.
“From our calculations, they are heading here.” He stated, his words had me inhaling sharply, my eyes widening as I stared at Jacob.
“How long do you think before they get here?”
The man looked back at his papers, his eyes scanning the data, his eyes flickered to us, lips parted when a warrior ran in.
“Prime, there is a large group of wolves at the gates” he informed.
What the f**k is going on?!
Jacob strode down the hall with purpose, and I fell into step behind him as a warrior briefed him on the situation. We got out of the cottage and climbed into a waiting jeep. My knees bounced anxiously as he floored the gas, driving us toward the main gates.
As we neared, he eased off the accelerator. A line of warriors stood firm, forming a barrier between the gates and the wolves beyond.
“Move aside,” he commanded, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. The warriors obeyed instantly, parting to let us through.
We walked past them, and as my gaze landed on the gathered group, the world tilted on its axis.
Before us, looking weary but hopeful were the missing wolves… and most of them… most of them were Eldorian wolves.
