Lorenzo POV The sky is overcast as we pull into Mia’s driveway, the clouds hanging low like a heavy curtain that refuses to lift. The closer we get to the house, the tighter my chest becomes. There are two cop cars in the driveway, lights flashing but sirens silent. An ambulance sits to the side, doors flung wide open, the stretcher empty and waiting like a silent omen. I tighten my grip on the wheel as the car slows to a stop, and before I even shift into park, Mia’s hand is on the handle. She’s gone. Flinging the door open, Mia bolts out of the car, her bare feet hitting the ground like she’s running for her life. For a split second, I’m frozen, unable to react to the scene in front of me.
