Chapter Two

I sat down at our table at the end of the dining room, putting my head into my hands. Hearing a plate being set in front of me, I looked up and saw Emmie. “Happy birthday, sweetheart! I made your favorite for you!” she exclaimed, hugging me. I looked at the plate and there was turkey bacon, scrambled egg whites, and cut up fruit. Now that I have my wolf, I’ll eat more, despite my healthy werewolf diet. “Thank you, Emmie, for the birthday wish and the breakfast!” I told her, hugging her back. Just as I took a bite out of my bacon, mom and dad sat down with their plates. “Can you explain what happened in class today and why you sent Jaron to the hospital?” dad asked before taking a sip of his coffee. “He got cocky, thinking he could beat me, calling me princess, and about not breaking one of my nails or messing my hair up. So, I had to bring him down a few notches,” I explained to him. “You know he is the son of my head Delta, right?” dad said, with a look on his face. “I know he is, dad. But still don’t give him the right to get all cocky with me and treat me like s**t,” I explained to him, finishing up my breakfast. I went to stand up when I realized I needed to talk to him. “Dad, can we talk in your office after we get showers? I have something important to tell you,” I told him. Mom looked at me suspiciously, knowing that I was going to tell him about my wolf. “Yeah, sweetheart, we can. We can meet there in an hour. Will that work before you have to go to the barn?” he replied. “Yes, that will work perfectly.” I hurried upstairs to take a shower and get dressed for my training with my horse. Ever since we came back from Germany, Kassandra and I have been begging dad for a horse. After a few years, he finally gave in and let us each have one. I got into jumping and after doing some research for a good horse; I got a Standardbred from a rescue because of their versatility and calm temperament. I have won several California shows and the FEI North American Youth Championship, and the year before I came in second. Kassandra and Soma got into barrel racing and they have won many shows around California and Nevada. Kassandra has qualified for The American Rodeo in Texas this past winter and we went to cheer her on, with her finishing in fifth place. The boys were not that interested in horses but will go trail riding with us when we ask them. After I got my shower and dressed, I grabbed my boots and carried them downstairs to dad’s office. I knocked on the door to make sure that dad wasn’t busy and when he said come in; I entered his office. Both he and mom were here, waiting for me. “Ok, princess, what do you need to talk to me about?” he asked, sitting on the couch. He motioned for me to sit down next to him. “Well, dad, I don’t know how to tell you this without getting you upset, so I am just going to tell you,” I stammered, with him looking at me confused. Mom went and sat down in his lap because she knows he will get upset about my wolf. “Last night, after midnight, I got my wolf.” I held my breath, waiting for him to freak out. He put his nose to mom’s neck, inhaling her scent to calm down before he said anything. “You are too young to get your wolf. Are you sure?” he asked me. “I am sure, dad. Her name is Venus and I can shift into her on the full moon in a couple of days,” I explained to him. He took a deep breath and looked at mom. “Is this even possible?” he asked her. “Nana said it was. My great-grandfather got his when he was her age. She said it is because Piper comes from strong Alpha lines,” mom explained to him, rubbing his arm to keep him calm. “Dad, if you don’t believe me, have Deacon reach out to her. Her name is Venus,” I told him. His eyes turned black and a few minutes later, they turned back to blue. He got up and walked over to the window, looking out at the playground. “You know, your mom wanted this built when she first moved here, for all the pups in the pack. When we had you, it was great to look out and see you play with the other pups. Then, after a bit, your brothers and sisters joined you out there, playing and having fun. Now, these days, I look out and only see Emma and Alex out there playing. Pretty soon, none of you will be out there. What I am saying is all of you are growing up too fast and in the blink of an eye, all eight of you will have your own lives to lead. Getting your wolf at fourteen is a wonderful thing, but also, it is telling me you are growing up. That means that you will be stronger, faster, and a better person, unless she has your smartass mouth,” dad said, nostalgic about the past. “You better believe that I have a smartass mouth, just like you,” Venus remarked, and I giggled. “You will be at the shifting ceremony in a couple of days, so you can shift for the first time into your wolf with us and your friends. We will celebrate this milestone with you and welcome Venus into our family,” he smiled, enveloping me in a hug. "However, this doesn’t mean you won’t run off to be with your mate if you find him. You will stay here and finish school. You also have your responsibilities here in the pack, too. Now, you’d better get to the barn before Eivor gets in one of his moods because you’re not on time,” he chuckled. I kissed him on the cheek and hugged mom, then I ran out the door to the barn. “Took you long enough,” Anthony told me when I ran into the barn. “You know, he doesn’t like to be cooped up in his stall for a long period unless the other horses are in.” “I know, and I am sorry. I was talking to my mom and dad about something important,” I explained to him. Just then, I heard Eivor pawing his stall door. “I HEAR YOU DOWN THERE! YOU BETTER BEHAVE!” Eivor nickered back. “Damn horse,” I growled. I walked down to his stall, pulling his halter off the hook on his stall door. He came up to the door and lowered his head, allowing me to put on his halter. After tying him up in the crossties, I brushed him down and cleaned out his feet. I wrapped his legs up with the polos and put his bell boots on. After tacking him up, I took him outside to the arena, where my jumps were set up. Clair was sitting on the fence when I walked in. “How much trouble are you in from last night?” she asked. “I get grounded after the party and my shift for two weeks. So, I most likely won’t be able to compete in the show next weekend,” I answered her. “You better be in the show. You two have worked hard to qualify for a long time!” Clair cried. “I know. But it depends on mom.” I lead Eivor to the mounting block, checked my cinch, tightening it some more, and lowered my stirrups. I mounted him and warmed him up by walking him around a couple of laps, and then I got him into a trot. After he was warmed up, we went over the jumps a few times, the first time was at a slow pace and the second time, we increased our pace to beat our time. “How fast were we on that one?” I asked Clair. “Half a second faster. You might win the show next weekend. You hit the record there,” Clair told me. I smiled and patted Eivor on the neck. I dismounted and loosen the cinch. “Do you want Chaos?” she asked me. I nodded my head, and she ran over to the paddock to get my new horse, Chaos. I have had Eivor for seven years now. When I got him from a rescue, he was fifteen years old. I would like to retire him after this year, giving him the well deserve retirement that he deserves. Chaos is supposed to be his replacement, and he is showing potential. He is a Standardbred, too, and dad bought him right off the track when he showed that he just did not have the heart to race. I have been working with him for the past year and I got him to go as high as three feet over the jumps. I took all the tack off Eivor and put it all on Chaos after I brushed him down. Clair led Eivor out of the arena to cool him down while I worked with Chaos. After I tacked him up, I led him to the mounting block and warmed him up like I did with Eivor. After warming him up, I rode over the jumps, and after a couple of laps, I rode up to Clair to check the time. “He is still slower than Eivor, but improving. He is a three seconds slower than Eivor, but a quarter second faster than two days ago,” she told me. “Well, hopefully he will improve enough for the spring,” I smiled, patting his neck. “Let’s hose these two down and then turn them out into the paddock.” I dismounted and mom linked me. “Jaron’s parents are in the office. They want to talk to you. How long before you are done?” “Give me about a half hour. I just got Chaos done in the arena. We are going to hose them off and turn them out,” I told her. “Make it fast. Adonia is not happy at all. Matt is standing here, smirking,” she said. “Try to keep the b***h happy for a half hour. I am busy right now.” Venus laughed in my head when I said that. “Maybe she should have taught her son some manners instead of raising him to be an arrogant son of a b***h!” Venus growled. “I know. Adonia has always been a stuck-up b***h since she moved here, from what dad had told me,” I explained to her. “Maybe we should give her an ass whooping, too.” Venus smiled, and I rolled my eyes at her. Adonia has never trained, even when dad mandated it when I was a baby, from what mom told me. Clair and I hurried up and hosed Eivor and Chaos down, squeegeed the excess water off them, and then turned them out into their paddock. Chaos took off running, bucking and acting like a fool, and Eivor stood there, wanting some attention. When I told him to go ahead, he ambled over to the shade and rolled in his favorite spot. I ran up to the house and when I got close to dad’s office, I could hear Adonia screaming through the door. His office is supposed to be soundproofed, but she has an enormous mouth and never shuts up. Knocking on the door, I walked in to Adonia yelling at dad. Mom was ready to beat her ass. “You are one disrespectful b***h, you know that, Adonia! What damn right do you have for standing there and yell and scream at your Alpha and my dad? Now, I know where Jaron gets his disrespect! From you! Now sit down and shut the hell up!” I yelled in an Alpha tone, making her shut up and drop right into her chair. “Sorry, dad, it came out,” I explained to dad. He sat there and nodded his head with a smile on his face. I walked over to dad’s desk and leaned against his desk, crossing my arms. “They should throw your ass in the cells for disrespecting my dad. From what I have heard from other pack members, you have been disrespecting him ever since you moved here, disregarding all his laws and mandates. Now, why the hell are you in his office, screaming at him?” I growled at her, making her submit to my aura. “You know why, you little b***h! You beat up my son for no reason!” she screamed. “No, I didn’t. We were sparring, and he got cocky, thinking that he could beat the new girl in class and the Alpha’s daughter. So, I put him in his place where he belonged, in the f*****g s**t pile at the barn!” I told her. Dad was trying to control his laughter and mom’s eyes were flickering back and forth between green and black as Adonia was disrespecting me as well. “Now, you have few choices here, either apologized to my dad for yelling and screaming at him for no damn reason or spend the next three days in the cells,” I gave her the options. “OR," I said when I looked over at mom, "you can face mom at the training grounds in an hour and get your ass beat for disrespecting both dad and me.” There was horror on her face when I mentioned that because she knew mom would rearrange her face. She cannot fight at all. “You cannot do this! You are not the Alpha and are only fourteen years old! What is going through your stupid head?” she screamed. “Adonia, shut the hell up!” Matt yelled at her. “You have always disrespected the Alpha family since you moved here, acting like you are better than everyone else. Piper is our future Alpha, and she has every right to punish you for your actions, the same as our son. Either apologize or I will reject you right here!” We all looked at him with shock on our faces. Adonia went to open her mouth but quickly shut it. “FINE!” she yelled at Matt, then turned to mom, dad, and me. “I am sorry, Alpha and Luna, for yelling at you. I have no right to do that and will watch my temper next time.” She got up and walked out of the office. “I think a few days in the cells might straighten her attitude up,” I told dad. “That might be a good idea,” he agreed. “I am sorry, Matt. I know she is your mate, but I will not tolerate the disrespect that she just showed to me and my family.” “That is ok, Alpha. She brought it upon herself, same with my son with the ass kicking he got this morning. I will get Adonia and bring her to the cells, let her cool off in there for a few days and give me a few days of peace and quiet,” Matt said, chuckling. “I suggest we have Meghan train Piper from now on, instead of the teen class. She is too powerful for them.” “Thank you, Matt, for the suggestion and I will have Jack and Henry meet you at the prison with Adonia,” dad assured him. Matt bowed his head and exited the office. Once the door was closed, I turned to dad. “I am sorry, dad, but I will not stand there and let her disrespect you and mom any longer. She needed to be put in her place,” I apologized to dad. “It is ok, princess. You will take over as Alpha when you are ready, so you might as well get the practice.” He hugged me. “Now, go up and get another shower and get ready for your party. You smell like horses.” He smiled, and I giggled. “The best smell out there,” I fired back and hugged both him and mom.
