Chapter 20 - Assholes

I ran faster and kept looking at the ground for the horse tracks. I will surely not go easy with those bastards. And, I picked up a tree branch to make it my weapon. Then, I kept dodging some bushes and branches of trees as I run after them. They didn't trail the road. Suddenly, my soul almost jumped out of my body as I am at the edge of a very deep cliff. But fortunately, my feet stopped on time and my hands are shaking and I'm panting. Damn, I almost died. I stepped back slowly and looked for the horse's tracks again but I can't find one. They must've gone somewhere else. --- As I walked near the cliff, I suddenly smelled something unpleasant. It's like a dead rat or something worse. I tried to find it but I can't find anything. Then, I just kept walking but stopped as I stepped on something slimy and wet. f**k! My head slowly bowed down to look at it and I covered my nose and lifted my right foot. What the heck is this s**t? It's big and it smells so bad. I moved away from the thing and it looks so disgusting that I'm about to throw up. "What animal could have this waste? This s**t is bigger than a goat." I muttered and kept looking around for the horse tracks. I sighed as I am really lost, but then, I suddenly remembered something. A dragon. This could belong to that monster. Then, I felt chills all over my body and I decided to just go back to my companions. Maybe there's no chance of us getting back our things. As I'm about to enter the forest, I heard a familiar loud noise. Flapped wings. And, I dared to look behind me and I saw clearly the huge monster. I gulped and immediately hid behind a tree. "What the f**k? It's so big!" I cursed out and I looked at it as it flew away across the nearby mountains. It might be looking for food. Again? Maybe Lera is too small for it. Wait for a second, if it flew from the cliff? There must be its nest down there. Alright. And, I went back to the edge of the cliff and looked down at it. It's like two hundred feet down. There are no trees that grow at the side, it's just rocks and soil. "Car! What are you doing? Get away from the edge, now!" I heard the princess yelled from afar. I tried to search for her and I found her under a tree. Then, I stepped away from the edge of the cliff and walked in her direction. I was surprised when she hugged me tight as I went near her. "You made me so damn freaking worried, Car. Don't ever just run like that again. Are you okay?" She said and asked me worriedly. It sounds great that she's learning our language in the future. I looked at her and nodded my head. "I'm sorry." I apologized and she gently caressed my cheek, then, kissed my forehead. "Let's go back. Chrys is waiting there." She stated and we held hands while walking back to Chrys. "One day, I'll find them and I will take our things back. They better be ready." I let out while we walk in the forest going to the south. I guess we're taking the right track since the sun is on our right and I think that it's the east. --- The sun is about to set and we still didn't get any signs that we're near to the palace. I remembered what Vida said that two days is the minimum time that we'll arrive at the palace. If we still got our horses and our map, we could have arrived there already. "Uh… Maddie? Do you have any plans now on how will we kill that monster that took my horse?" Chrys asked while walking beside me. I sighed and I am still not believing my eyes when I saw how big that thing is. It looked like it is as big as our apartment building. That monster can swallow you wholly. Now, it makes me wonder how wide is the coverage if it spits fire to its target? "It depends on what are the available weapons that we can utilize in the palace, and how many warriors are there, and what is the structure of the palace," I answered and he nodded his head. Doesn't he get any plans in his head? "Okay, I trust in your plans since you're good in math and science." He uttered and I turned my head to him. "And, what made you think of it?" I asked him and he just shrugged. "Kate told me. You just hate to listen to your teachers' lectures, but you can answer your exams really well. That's why you got good grades." He said and I guess it's all true. "Well, for you to know, your ex-girlfriend is always torturing me to study so f*****g hard before exam weeks. She's worse than my mother, Dude." I let out and they chuckled. They're somewhat similar to this girl on my left. Why are they so hard on me? But yeah, I just miss my best friend so much. She always calls my phone as soon as she wakes up every morning so that we got to go to school together. I wonder how's she's doing right now. Our hearts finally found relief as we got the sight of the palace. It's in between the city. Wow, it's exactly looked like what we see in movies. It's just so grand and I bet it looks good on the inside too. --- "Do these people know you, Mel?" I asked her since she's so anxious while looking around. We've covered our heads with the hoods on our cloak. And, I'm so damn hungry. I think that we have been walking on the city sidewalk for about ten minutes now. "Yes, some of them do recognize me." She answered and Chrys is curiously looking around the place. Some people are walking with us too, and some are buying something from the sidewalk stalls. And, we kept walking until we heard some people screaming and shouting. It must be some street fight again just like in Tehori. Then, we went near to the group of people cheering something. "Hey, what's happening there?" Chrys asked a man that is trying too hard to tiptoe just to see what's happening at the center. "It's a match, and this time they're using weapons. The first to be wounded will be the loser." The man replied and it sounds so violent to me. What if they could kill their opponent? "And the winner will receive five hundred gold coins." The man added and that made us curious. "Ah, so, who could join the match?" I asked him and Chrys nudged me. "Don't tell me you're planning to join again, Maddie?" He whispered at me and I just shrugged my shoulders. I don't have any intentions because I don't need gold coins. We need to be at the palace since it's almost dark and I'm f*****g hungry. "Nope, we need to be at the palace before it gets dark. Right, Mel?" I replied and asked the princess. She's been staring at the match intently. I guess she didn’t hear me. Then, I looked at where she's looking and there I saw two men fighting with swords. What's more interesting is that sword used by the blonde-haired guy is familiar. "Do you see what I see, Car?" She asked and I nodded my head in response. We went closer to the ring passing through the noisy crowd. "Hey, where are you both going?" Chrys called us out but we didn't bother to look back. That is really my sword. I am very sure of that. "Jero! Get it together and use what you've learned!" A man at the side of the ring is shouting at the top of his lungs. That voice sounds familiar and that name is also familiar. They must be those hold uppers from the forest earlier since the man has a bow and arrow at his back, and a guy beside him got a sword too, and if I'm not mistaken it's Chrys' sword. "What's your plan, Mel?" I asked her and she looked at me. I know that she knows that those weapons are very important to us. "We'll take those back." She uttered and Chrys went beside us while panting. He got a hard time passing through the crowd since he's big and tall. "Take what back?" He asked and I made his face look at the men fighting in the ring. He got wide eyes and turned to me. "Is that--?" He asked me and I cut him off. "Yep," I answered shortly and he nodded slowly. We should think of a plan on how to get our weapons back. --- That Jero guy lost since he's wounded on his thigh. Then, my eyes followed to where he went and I'm right, he's with those men who got our weapons. I was surprised when the man who shouted earlier punched Jero straight in the face. I think he's disappointed that he lost. "What's the plan, Maddie?" Chrys asked me and I told him to keep an eye on those men. They went out of the crowd and we followed them. We need to know if where did they bring our horses and our other things. "What happened back there, Jero? Do you know that I lost two hundred gold coins because of you?" The man ranted and Jero is just looking at the ground. We've been following them and they stopped in an alley. "This sword is heavy and I don't---" Jero said but was cut off with a blow in the abdomen from the man. He knelt on the ground while clutching his stomach. Damn, that man is crazy. He should be the one who fought in the ring so he won't be blaming anybody. "It's not the sword, Jero, it's just that you are weak and useless." He belted and kicked Jero's face really hard that I think he passed out. And, my usual self that doesn't want to witness such degrading behaviors took over and I went near them. "You should be the one fighting in that ring, Asshole, if you don't want to lose your money," I told him, and they were taken aback. He went near me and he pulled out the sword from his back. The other is also pointing his sword at me. More like Chrys' sword. I raised both my hands and he chuckled. "Who are you to have the guts to talk to me like that?" He asked with his ugly voice. I removed my hood and he was shocked to see that I'm a girl. "I'm just one of your victims from the forest and I'm here to take back what you took from us. Our weapons, horses, and our supplies." I told him and he laughed while pointing the sword at my face. "Really? And, do you think we'll just give it to you?" He said while chuckling. I gritted my teeth and I'm staring daggers at him. He's making me pissed off. "Yes, if you don't want to end up like Jero," I answered confidently and looked at the guy who's lying unconscious on the ground. He stopped laughing and looked at me from head to toe. "You know what, Kid? We can arrange this at my house. I will give it back to you, but you have to give me something." He said and eyed me lustfully. And, I really really want to break his nose right now. "Well, I---" I'm about to say something when I saw the man fell on the ground with his face first. Then, I looked at the other guy and Chrys already hit him with a piece of wood that made him fall to his knees and kiss the ground. "You should arrange your face, Jerk. Nobody messes up with my girl like that." Mel let out and I just sighed. She just slammed a wooden stool at the man's head that made him passed out. But I'm thankful that they came in view and joined the fun. "Are you okay, Car?" She asked me and checked me out. "Yep. Very fine. Thanks to you." I said and she smiled warmly then kissed me on the lips. Chrys cleared his throat while he's busy binding the unconscious bodies in front of us. Then, we stopped and turned to him. "I helped too, Maddie." He said and handed me my sword. Mel also took her bow and arrow from the man. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you too, Chrysa." I told him sarcastically and he just curtsied. Damn, don't tell me that he likes that nickname? I just shook my head lightly and I heard the princess chuckled. And, she has been looking at us amusingly. "Now, what's lacking are our horses and other things. We should wake them up." I said and grabbed the Jero guy by the neck, then, slapped his face. "Wakey, wakey, sleeping beauty," I greeted and he's about to flutter his eyes open. He tried to move but his hands are tied up behind him. "Who are you?" He asked while struggling to be free from the rope but failed. "Where are the things that you've stolen from us back in the forest?" I asked him calmly and he might have recognized us. "What? I… I don't know… what you're talking about." He stuttered and he got wide eyes when he saw his companions lying on the ground unconsciously. "If you don't want to pass out again, because I really want to punch your face right now, tell us where are our other things. You get me?" I told him while keeping my cool. He swallowed hard and looked around. "Uh… Did you do that to Arthur?" He asked and pointed his lips to the p*****t asshole who punched and kicked him earlier. "Nope, she did. Do you want me to do something like that to you too?" I told him while pointing Mel who got her back from us to observe the surroundings. "No, no, no... I… I.. uh, it's a house at the end of this street. There's uh, a man there, where um, we sold the horses and some weapons." He explained and I just raised an eyebrow at him. "And, I'm uh… I apologize for what we did to you. I told my brothers not to do it, but they still did. I'm so sorry." He said and apologized. Wow, I didn’t think that he would be sorry. "Okay. So, how are we--" I said but was cut off by Arthur. He just woke up. "What are you doing, Jero?" He asked his brother. I turned to him, then, punched him in the face and breaking his nose. I finally did it. He passed out again and I turned back to Jero. "Where are we? Oh, so how do we get to that man to take our things back?" I asked him and he stared at his brothers who are tied up side by side. "Uh… There's a bag of coins from my pocket. It has four hundred gold coins. We sold your things for five hundred and it's just my share." He explained and I told Chrys to get it from his pocket and the gay is thankful. I gave him a confused look. His share is four hundred? Then, his brothers got-- he cut me off from my train of thoughts. I just don't know what mathematics are they using at this time. "I won from the bet against myself. I put my bet to my opponent earlier because I know that I have no chance of winning." He explained and I made an 'o' expression. "Well, that explains it. Aright, kindly tell your brothers to don't mess up other people's business again, because you don't know how urgent are our purpose here in your place and time." I stated and he nodded his head in response. --- We went to the place where Jero pointed, and we told the man that we are the rightful owners of those things that he purchased from those hold uppers. He recognized the princess and asked for an apology for the trouble that they have caused. "Alright, finally, we can proceed to the palace," Chrys let out as he rides Mel's horse. I missed Reo and the princess's back hug. Yes, damn these butterflies every time she touches me. But, Palace, here we come.
