Cook was sitting in the kitchen just inside the door, looking at her beautiful vegetable garden growing just outside. If someone had told her two years ago that she would be able to sit like this and enjoy a cup of tea, she would have poked their eyes out and told them they were mad! She had started a pretty flower garden in a pot hanging from the windowsill and when the flowers grew, she knew she was able to plant a vegetable garden. Friedrich helped, of course, but it was her garden. Julius and Emily would often visit and Emily loved the fresh vegetables, except potatoes. She hated them even when they were cooked.
