Tears welled up in Julius’s eyes. Bitter-sweet tears, I was awake, but he still had to tell me our son was gone. Kissing my hand, sobbing with happiness that I was awake.
“Julius, where is my son?” Not sure what I saw was simply a dream, he climbed onto the bed next to me, and he held me tight in his arms.
“Emily, you had a bad fall. You must have tripped on the carpet.” He started sounding hesitant.
“That is not what I asked you, Julius, where is my son?” I felt irritated that he wouldn’t give me the truth straight out.
“We lost him, Emily. Your fall was bad, and your body couldn’t hold onto him. You were too badly hurt. The doctor said …” Kissing the top of my head, he was not able to say anymore as tears ran down his cheeks.
