Abril was having a cup of tea while sitting on the comfortable red sofa in the small sitting area of her room when she heard several distant thunderclaps. She got up and went to the window.
It had been raining all afternoon, and as she watched the rain hit her window, she wondered how Lissana was doing and how far away they might be, whether she was sheltered or out in the open.
The sound of the door opening pulled her out of her thoughts. It was Alessandro, who was leaning against the door frame with one hand, giving her a half-smile that made her fall even more in love with her handsome husband, and he asked,
“Are you worried?”
“Of course.”
Alessandro entered, approached her from behind, wrapped his arms around her, and rested his chin on her shoulder.
“And how could I not be? Lissana has embarked on her first solo journey. Now I think it wasn't a good idea to let her go with just Uzziel.”
“She insisted on making this trip with only Uzziel. I don't think you could have convinced her otherwise. Besides, it's not her first solo trip; when she came to the desert to fight the dark king, she went alone.”
“That was different. This time, she's not heading to a specific place. I can't stop thinking about her, whether she's doing well. She's not used to dealing with humans, lies, and deceit because she grew up in fairyland.”
“She's a smart girl. She survived fairyland; this world should be nothing for her.”
“I hope that's truly the case.”
Abril's body was tense. Alessandro sensed there was more to her concern, especially since she had been the one most supportive of Lissana's trip.
He searched her face; she had a frown. When he met his wife's beautiful golden eyes, he asked,
“What's wrong, Aby? Have you had a premonition?”
“I'm not sure if it's a premonition or just a nightmare brought on by my anxiety.”
“What did you dream?”
“I saw Lissana fighting monsters, but that can't be. There aren't any monsters left in this world; we made sure to destroy them all.”
“Are you sure?”
“I think it was just a nightmare, it's hard for me to let my little girl go, so just forget it.”
“Even if that were the case, a few monsters would be nothing for her. She's our little warrior, who defeated the dark king and ended the war against darkness, our guardian princess. I believe she's more than ready for the outside world.”
Abril placed her left hand on Alessandro's chest, the fine lines of the marriage mark on her hand glowed slightly.
“I suppose you're right. I shouldn't think so much about it.”
Alessandro took Abril's hand, kissed her pale fingers, which contrasted with the golden marriage mark, and said with a mischievous smile.
“I have an incredible way to help you forget your problems and relax. We should go to bed so I can show you.”
It had only been a few months since Alessandro had returned from the dead and the two had renewed their marriage vows. At that moment, they were still in their honeymoon phase, both forcing themselves to get out of bed to fulfill their obligations.
“Hmm... really?”
“Yes, I'll give you a well-deserved massage, one that touches every part of your body.”
Abril kissed him. A hungry and voracious kiss. Although it hadn't seemed long for Alessandro, the years apart had been t*****e for Abril. She had missed his body, the warmth of his kisses, the softness of his caresses; she had missed everything.
He lifted her off the ground and dragged her to the bed, unable to resist the urge to claim her as his own.
Alessandro had become extremely selfish. He realized this when Lissana had left. Although he should be missing his daughter just like Abril, he couldn't stop thinking about his wife, about the intense desire to make love to her, to lose himself in her and find himself in her gaze. In their bodies united as one, like the perfect design created by God.
They continued to share their love intensely and wildly until they were exhausted from fatigue and pleasure. Alessandro caressed her back with small touches while she rested on his chest.
Although Alessandro had become much thinner due to the lack of physical activity, Abril still seemed very small in his arms.
“Much better? Did I manage to relax you?”
“More than relax me, I think you've exhausted me. I don't know how much longer I can handle these intense nights.”
Alessandro buried his nose in Abril's reddish hair, inhaled her scent, and said, “We're still young, and I think we'll be young for a long time; I believe we've already built up the stamina.”
“We're not that young, and besides, you're much older than me.”
“That's not true; if we count the years you spent in the land of the fairies and the ones I was dead, you're older than me. But don't worry, you don't look it.”
Abril gave him a light tap on the chest.
“You're a fool.”
“But you still love me, just as I love you. I don't care that you're older; otherwise, I wouldn't have married you a second time.”
Abril smiled; their nonsensical talks always helped her forget the harsh, cold years they spent apart.
“I love you, Aby. I love you.”
Abril didn't respond to his words; he moved her hair away from her face to see why she wasn't saying anything, and she had fallen asleep.
“How convenient.”
He thought as he covered her with the blanket and adjusted her on the bed for comfort. He kept watching her until sleep made his eyes close and he fell asleep.
Abril was sure that just moments ago she was in Alessandro's arms, so she didn't understand why she was in the garden taking a walk and even less why her belly looked swollen.
Pregnant, she thought as she walked, unable to control her body, only her thoughts.
Her walk through the garden continued until she heard a voice calling her; it was one of the maids.
“Your majesty, good morning. It's already noon. Do you want me to bring you something to eat, or do you prefer the bath first?”
Abril lifted the sheets and touched her belly. The maid, very surprised, asked,
“Is something wrong, your majesty?”
Abril shook her head.
“Nothing, I just wanted to check something. Prepare my bath first.”
When the maid entered the bathroom, Abril couldn't help but touch her belly again. It was flat, but in her dream, it had been swollen, and she had even felt something moving inside her.
A premonitory dream. She would be pregnant again.
Abril turned pale at the thought of that possibility; the land of the fairies was blocked.
When the maid left the bathroom, Abril entered. Her bath was quicker than usual. After changing her clothes, she left the room in a hurry. She needed a doctor who could confirm that she wasn't pregnant.
If she called the family doctor, it would take too long for him to arrive, and Alessandro would end up finding out, so she decided to go to the city. Using a magic ring, she changed the color of her hair and used a hooded cloak to hide her face.
When they confirmed she wasn't pregnant, Abril felt great relief as all the tension that had been tightening her insides disappeared.
“Are you completely sure that I'm not pregnant?”
The doctor, seeing the young woman hiding her face, thought she was a noble who had lost her purity before marriage, so he repeated.
“You are not pregnant.”
He handed her a small bag with some leaves and said, “However, if the encounter was recent, it would be better for you to drink a tea with these herbs to prevent it.”
Abril stared at the small bag of dried leaves in her hand; she had just spent an intense night of passion with Alessandro. She usually took some contraceptive teas, but she had been so worried the previous day that she couldn't remember if she had taken them.
Abril put her hand on her belly and asked, “If that's the case, could I be pregnant?”
“Yes, but it can't be confirmed for a few months, so that's why I advise you to drink a tea with those herbs, to prevent the pregnancy from continuing if it has occurred.”
Abril dropped the bag of dried leaves, horrified at the idea of ending the pregnancy if it was there.
“I would never do something like that!”
“So, do you plan to have it?”
Abril had such a vivid dream that she felt the small life moving in her belly. Even though it would be difficult, she decided she would have the child. She gave a gold coin to the doctor and turned around without answering his question.
