He knew he couldn't delay much longer, but he also didn't want to spoil the mood during this important business meeting. Sebastian realized he would need to find an opportune moment to speak with Jade privately and share his true feelings, hoping that she would understand the sincerity of his emotions amidst the complexities of their intertwined lives. Finally, the meeting concluded, and the group began to disperse. As they left the room, Sebastian lingered behind, waiting for the opportune moment to speak with Edward, his old friend who now worked in Arthur's finance team. Sebastian found Edward by the window, staring out at the bustling city below. He approached cautiously, knowing that their friendship had grown strained over the years. "Edward," Sebastian began, "we need to talk." Edward turned to face him, his expression equally stern. "What is it, Sebastian?" Sebastian chose his words carefully, his frustration evident. "I've noticed the way you look at Jade. Don't deny it, I can see it in your eyes." Edward's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but he met Sebastian's gaze defiantly. "And what if I do? What are you going to do about it?" Sebastian's voice grew sharper as he spoke, his patience wearing thin. "I'll tell you what I'm going to do. She's my stepsister, Edward, and I care about her deeply. I need to know that your intentions are genuine." Edward's eyes narrowed as he locked gazes with Sebastian. "And what about your own intentions, Sebastian? You've been hiding something, too." Sebastian's anger flared as Edward challenged him, and he couldn't hold back the frustration that had been building within him. "You want to talk about my intentions, Edward? Fine. I heard the conversation this morning. I heard you inviting Jade to those cabins, asking her to be your plus one." Edward's face paled, a mixture of surprise and discomfort crossing his features. He hadn't expected Sebastian to know about the invitation. "Sebastian, I..." Sebastian cut him off, his tone cutting and accusatory. "You didn't think I would find out? You know how important she is to me, and yet you invited her to spend a weekend away with a group of people she hardly knows. What's your game, Edward?" Edward's earlier defiance seemed to waver, and he struggled to find the right words. "I didn't think it would be a big deal. It's just a weekend getaway with friends." Sebastian's anger simmered, but there was also a hint of hurt in his voice. "Edward, our friendship may have taken a hit, but you know how I feel about her. If you have any genuine feelings for her, you need to be upfront and honest. Don't play games with her and with me.” The room fell into a tense silence, the weight of their complicated emotions and unresolved issues hanging heavily in the air. The rift between them had deepened, and the road ahead looked even more uncertain as they navigated their feelings for Jade and the tangled web of ambition and power that surrounded them. As the intricate web of ambitions and desires continued to weave itself around Kingsley & Sinclair Enterprises, each member of this powerful ensemble found themselves navigating treacherous waters, where loyalties were tested, secrets were kept, and the pursuit of success could lead to unexpected consequences. In this high-stakes game, the only certainty was that the dance of destiny had only just begun. As the tense conversation between Sebastian and Edward reached an impasse, Alexander and Isabella decided it was time to exit the meeting room. They made their way to the elevator, their voices filled with laughter and playful banter as they descended to the first floor of the towering building. Jade, unaware that Alexander was inside, rushed to catch the elevator. She stepped in, her eyes widening in surprise when she realized Alexander was there with Isabella. Her discomfort was palpable as the elevator descended from the 34th floor. Alexander, ever the provocateur, decided to lighten the mood. He turned to Isabella with a theatrical flourish. "Isabella, darling, I've been meaning to discuss a matter of great importance with you." Isabella rolled her eyes, knowing exactly where Alexander was heading with this. "Oh, do enlighten us, Alexander." Alexander pretended to be deep in thought, tapping his chin. "You see, Isabella, I've been pondering the most pressing question of our time. If I were a superhero, what would my superpower be?" Isabella chuckled, playing along. "And what would that be, Alexander?" Alexander grinned, his gaze drifting toward Jade, who was trying to make herself invisible in the corner of the elevator. "The power of irresistible charm, of course." Isabella couldn't help but chuckle at Alexander's theatrics, but she decided to include Jade in their conversation to ease her discomfort. "What do you think, Jade? Would Alexander make a charming superhero?" Jade, caught off guard by the sudden attention, stammered, "Um, yes, I suppose so." Alexander, noting Jade's unease, decided to take things up a notch. "You know, Isabella, I was considering asking someone out for a coffee after this meeting. Someone who could use a break from all this business talk." Isabella rolled her eyes again, sensing where this was going. "And who might that be, Alexander?" Alexander's gaze remained fixed on Jade as he replied, "Well, Jade, what do you say? Care to join me for a coffee?" Jade's cheeks turned pink as she tried to hide her discomfort. Before she could respond, the elevator doors opened, and Veronica stood there with a self-satisfied and egocentric smile. Her voice was grating as she greeted them. "Oh, Alexander, what a delightful surprise to see you here!" Veronica's self-satisfied smile grew wider as she turned her attention to Alexander, her voice dripping with suggestion. "Alexander, darling, I was just thinking, it's such a lovely day outside. Why don't you and I go for a little stroll later? There's this charming little café nearby." Alexander, still playing his game and enjoying the discomfort it was causing Jade, decided to add to her frustration. He feigned deep consideration, tapping his chin once more. "A stroll, you say? Well, Veronica, that does sound tempting." Jade clenched her fists, her annoyance and anger building as Alexander appeared to agree without hesitation, even though he had previously invited her for coffee. She shot him an irritated look but said nothing. Veronica, oblivious to the tension in the elevator, continued with her flattery. "I've heard you have such exquisite taste in coffee, Alexander. I simply can't resist the opportunity to try it with you." Alexander, basking in the situation, played along. "Ah, well, my coffee expertise is renowned. It would be a shame not to share it." Isabella, sensing Jade's discomfort, decided to intervene. "Veronica, perhaps we could all go for coffee together. The more, the merrier, right?" Veronica, who had been focused solely on Alexander, finally acknowledged the presence of the others. She gave a tight-lipped smile and nodded in agreement. "Of course, Isabella. The more, the merrier." Jade, relieved by Isabella's suggestion, couldn't help but shoot a triumphant look at Alexander. It seemed that his little game was not going exactly as planned, and she wasn't going to let Veronica's presence ruin her day. The tension reached its breaking point as Jade stepped out of the elevator and, in a moment of frustration, playfully punched Veronica's shoulder. Alexander couldn't help but smile in a narcissistic way as he watched Jade's reaction. It seemed that he was inching closer to achieving his goals with Jade, even if it meant navigating the complex web of emotions and relationships in their high-stakes world. As Jade left the sight of all of them, he changed his mood to a serious one. He leaned in towards Veronica and spoke in a low tone, "Veronica, I just remembered that I don't have time for coffee today, but next time, please reach out to my assistant for appointments." With that, he smoothly put on his sunglasses and made his exit, leaving Isabella with a knowing smile on her face, as if she saw through his act. Meanwhile, Veronica was left both angry and shocked by Alexander’s sudden change of plans.
