As Jackson left the hotel, he made a mental note to keep a much closer eye on Melissa. She was an unpredictable variable in a plan that had taken years to put into motion, and unpredictability was the last thing he needed right now. He couldn't afford to underestimate her, especially after their unexpected encounter. Whether she truly believed he was a stranger or merely pretended to accept his explanation remained to be seen, but either possibility was dangerous.
