Chapter 8- Back To Life

Doom Couldn't get Violet out of my f*****g head. The woman had been running through my brain constantly. I had June bent over my desk, f*****g her hard from behind, trying to get Violet out of my damn thoughts. Wasn't f*****g working. One thing Violet had been right about. June's voice was too f*****g screechy. "Shut the f**k up." I smacked her ass hard and kept going. But it wasn't June I was thinking about. It was Violet. That beautiful f*****g body. That sweet mouth. I closed my eyes and imagined Violet instead. When I finished, I pulled out, removed the condom, and came across June's back. "Get the f**k out." June looked pissed. Didn't give a f**k. She apparently expected me to keep her around. Wasn't happening. I'd only called her into my office because I needed a distraction. It hadn't f*****g worked. I tucked myself back into my jeans. Fuck. Before I could stop myself, I grabbed my phone and called the prospect watching Violet. "Report." He knew exactly what I wanted. "Prez, her parents showed up tonight." I waited. "The dad was cool. The mom was a total b***h. Defended that piece of s**t and made Violet cry." My anger immediately rose. Made Violet cry. The sooner she divorced that asshole, the sooner I could kill him slowly for hurting my girl. My girl. I frowned. Where the f**k had that come from? "Make sure her ass eats dinner." "Yeah, Prez." I ended the call. "f**k!" I dragged a hand down my face. What the f**k was wrong with me? I left my office and walked into the clubhouse. Brothers were spread around the main room, drinking and enjoying themselves while the club girls danced around the poles. Normally, I'd join them. Tonight, none of it interested me. I headed for the bar. Doc was sitting there enjoying a drink. "Go check on the lady tomorrow." Doc looked at me. "Already planned on it." I gave the old man a side-eye. "She's a sweet kid," he said. I grunted. "It's just a mark I owe her, old man. I slammed into her ass." Doc gave me a look that clearly said he thought I was full of s**t. I didn't f*****g ask. "Good women like her don't come around often." "Didn't ask." "When they do, a smart man snatches them up before another prick comes along." I stared at him. "Done giving your unsolicited f*****g advice?" "Nope." I turned around. His laughter followed me as I headed back toward my office. Fuck this s**t. Violet The next day, my cousin Naomi came over. I was ridiculously excited to see her. Especially because she brought ice cream. The prospect guarding me didn't let her inside until I confirmed she was okay. Those guys had been here the entire time. Apparently, between Paul being a piece of crap and Ethan worrying about me. I wasn't allowed to exist unsupervised anymore. Naomi barely got settled on the couch before starting. "I'm sorry you had to find out the hard way that my sister's a dirty hoe." I groaned and shoved another bite of chocolate ice cream into my mouth. I'd added a scoop of peanut butter because chocolate and peanut butter made almost everything better. "Do you really need to I told you so me?" "Oh, please. You know I do." I rolled my eyes. Naomi sighed. "You know, Stella used to be a good person." "Hard to believe right now." "She was. Then being popular and beautiful became her entire personality." Naomi took another bite of ice cream. "Now she can't help herself. Sugar daddies, married men...apparently she's only useful on her back." My jaw dropped. "Naomi!" "What?" "That's your sister!" "And?" A voice came from across the room. "She'd probably make a good club whore." I slowly turned toward the prospect. He shrugged. "Like that crazy..." I thought about it. "June chick?" The prospect nodded. "Pretty much." Naomi looked between us. "Why is that dude here anyway?" "It's a long story." "I've got ice cream." "Fair." I took another bite. "When I crashed the Camaro, the President of their club pulled me out and got me medical attention." The prospect looked at me strangely. I ignored him. "He also happens to be friends with Ethan." "Now neither of them wants me alone because Paul showed up and pulled my shoulder out of place again." Naomi's mouth dropped open. "He f*****g what?" "Yeah." "That asshole! I'll kick his ass." I laughed. I really needed this. Needed her. "I also heard what your mom said," Naomi continued more softly. "I'm sorry, sweetie." I looked down at my ice cream. "I swear, maybe you and Stella got switched at birth or something. Stella and your mom are alike. You're more like me and my mom." I nodded seriously. "Probably Ethan's fault." Naomi frowned. "What?" "He knew he was already dealing with one crazy woman. He didn't want one for a sister too, so he switched us." Naomi burst out laughing. So did I. A knock sounded at the door. The prospect immediately went to answer it. Naomi looked at me. "Does your brother always have security?" "Apparently I do now." A moment later, Doc walked inside. "Flower, your ass is looking better." I smiled. "Hi, Doc. Yeah. Still a little sore, but I'm doing pretty good." I gestured toward Naomi. "This is my cousin Naomi. Naomi, this is Doc. He's the kind man who's been putting me back together." "Twice," Doc grumbled. "Yes. He set my shoulder twice." Naomi stood and offered her hand. "Nice to meet you. Thank you for taking care of my little cousin." Doc shook it. "Good meeting you too." Then his eyes narrowed. "You're not the cousin who slept with her husband, right?" "NO!" I nearly spit out my ice cream. "That's her sister." "Good." Naomi looked horrified. I started laughing. Doc turned his attention back to me. "Came to check your ass over. Might give you a release to start doing s**t again." My smile immediately grew. "Yes, please." "Don't get excited yet." Too late. Doc checked me over thoroughly. My shoulder had improved considerably, and the concussion symptoms were mostly gone. Finally, he removed the sling. "All right, Flower. Your ass is good to go." "Really?" "Within reason." I grinned. "You're still taking it easy. Anything starts hurting or you have problems. Your brother better call my ass unless he wants his ass beaten." I chuckled. "Absolutely." Naomi clapped. "Perfect! You and I are going drinking this weekend." I looked at her. "Naomi—" "Best way to get over someone is to get under someone new." My face went hot. "Naomi!" She grinned. Doc shook his head. One of the prospects laughed. "I am not discussing my s*x life in front of an audience." "You don't have a s*x life anymore," Naomi pointed out. "You're making this worse." "That's what cousins are for." I looked at Doc. "There's ice cream in the freezer if you want some. Or Ethan has cold beer in the fridge." "Nah. I'm gonna hit it." He pointed at me. "Your ass better be careful if you go out." "I will. Trust me. If anything happens, I'll call Ethan." Doc frowned. "I better get a damn call too." "Okay." He headed for the door. "Drive safe, Doc!" Naomi waited until the door closed. "He was awesome." "Yeah." I smiled. "Honestly, the few guys I've met from their club have all been really nice to me." The prospect snorted. I looked at him. "What?" "Nothing, lady." That didn't sound suspicious at all. Naomi and I spent another couple hours talking, laughing, and finishing entirely too much ice cream. Eventually, she had to leave. I hugged her goodbye. For the first time in days, I actually felt... Normal. Maybe things were finally starting to settle down. Then someone knocked on the door. I should've known better. The prospect answered. "Law." "Prospect. Prez sent me to see the lady." The prospect immediately stepped aside. A man walked inside carrying a folder. I frowned. "I'm Law." "Hi." "Prez wanted me to bring these over, see if your ass approves, then I can get them filed." My confusion grew. "What are they?" He handed me the folder. "I'm the club's lawyer." I opened it. "These are your divorce papers." My jaw dropped. "What?" "Divorce papers." "I heard that part." I stared at the documents. "I just...I didn't know your Prez was doing this." Law shrugged. "Prez gets s**t done." Apparently. I looked down at the pages. There were words everywhere. Legal words. A lot of legal words. "I'm sorry. I'm having a hard time following some of this. Can you give me the basic breakdown?" "Divorce on grounds of infidelity and spousal abuse." I swallowed. That second one hurt. "You'd seek fifty percent of marital assets, and he'll be responsible for my legal fees." My eyes widened. "Fifty percent?" "Yeah." I immediately shook my head. "I don't want fifty percent of everything." Law stared at me. "I just want what's mine." "Lady—" "My car. My personal belongings. And the house should be sold, then we split whatever comes from that fifty-fifty." Law shook his head. "Prez's order." There were those words again. Prez's order. I looked down at the papers. This was my divorce. Not Doom's. Mine. And yet somehow the Mountain had already found me a lawyer, had papers drawn up, and apparently had opinions about what I should receive. I should probably be angry. Maybe I was. A little. But mostly... I was overwhelmed. Law showed me where to sign. Three copies. One for me. One for Paul. One for the court. My hand hovered over the first signature line. Six years. Paul and I had been together for six years. Three of them married. Six years of memories couldn't disappear just because he'd betrayed me. I knew I wanted the divorce. There wasn't a doubt in my mind about that. But knowing something needed to end didn't mean ending it didn't hurt. I signed. Then the second. Then the third. When I put the pen down, a couple tears slipped down my cheeks. I quickly wiped them away. I'd thought getting back to my life meant returning to the one I'd had before the accident. Maybe I was finally realizing that life didn't exist anymore. I was going to have to build a new one.
