Later that night, around three in the morning, Tristan crawled out of bed, careful not to wake Rain. Earlier, after he’d finished cooling the cake and putting it away, heart in mouth, he’d walked into Rain’s bedroom, where he’d found Rain sleeping in his clothes, on top of the sheets. Rain had gone to bed hurt and alone. Now Tristan crept down the hallway, and at Philip’s bedroom, he peeked through the wide crack in the door to check up on him.
