The soft reflection from the ray of sunlight settled against Amelia’s cheeks, pulling her away from her deep slumber.
She stretched across the bed, hands reaching out to grab Maximo—but she suddenly met with the emptiness of the mattress. Her lashes fluttered, eyes snapping open immediately. She glared at the vacant space beside her, brows knitting.
“Looking for me?” Maximo’s voice rose above the air, his gaze locked with hers.
He stood tall like a force of nature, arms crossed over his bare chest.
Her eyes moved across his body, drinking him in for a moment longer than she meant to.
“How long have you been standing there?” she asked, blinking her eyes away.
A soft chuckle slipped past Maximo’s lips as he pushed off the wall.
“For as long as dawn.”
Amelia’s lips parted
