CHAPTER 1
ELISE’S POV I sigh in content as my exhausted body made contact with the soft surface of my bed. Being a waitress is not an easy job, especially on weekends. My body is aching from head to toe considering I have been exposed to the horrors of high six inch heels for the past five and a half hours. My cheeks hurt due to the smile plastered on my face for the same amount of time. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but it gets too much sometimes. I don’t bother changing and lay on my stomach, enjoying the comfort and safety of the soft covers. Soon enough my eyes start to droop and I fall asleep. The next morning I woke up when the smell of fresh coffee hit my nose. A smile slipped on my face knowing what is going to happen. Soon my bedroom door flew open and a blur of blonde and pink crashed on top of me, knocking the air out of my lungs. I laughed and tickled my little sister Millie, who was ready for her first day of school in her favorite pink dress that mom got her for her birthday. “Are you excited for school Millie mouse?” I asked and watched in amusement as she scrunched up her adorable face at the nick name, but nodded a yes. “You be a good girl okay? Don’t trouble your teachers and no getting into fights with other children. Remember don’t be rude to anyone. And make friend. Okay?” I told her as I got off of bed with her in my arms. Millie is small for her age but is the cutest thing ever, you can’t hate her even if you want to. She nodded again and gave me a small peck on the cheek and dashed out of my room. I chuckled at her retreating figure. I brushed my teeth and took a long warm shower to ease up my muscles. I wore a plain blue skinny jeans and a white flow top with flowers on it. I pulled my long bark brown hair in a loose bun before grabbing my school bag and phone and running downstairs. Mom was in the kitchen flipping pancakes while daddy was at the dining table reading a newspaper and Millie was munching on her fruit loops. I rolled my eyes at this. Typical family. I snatched the newspaper from daddy’s hand and gave him a kiss on the cheek while he just laughed at my antics. I attacked my mom next and gave her a huge bear hug from behind. Which earned me a hit from the spatula. Ouch. “How was your shift last night Eli?” my dad asked with an amused smile stuck on his face and I swear I heard a chuckle from the kitchen. I glared at him. He knows not to mention my job. Especially when I come home so tired that I act drunk. That’s the thing about me, when I’m tired I don’t know what I’m doing. And that amuses my family. “It was fun.” I replied with a sarcastic smile which only led to more laughing. I might have done something really entertaining last night. But who cares? Not me. I gulped my coffee and scarfed down three pancakes, bid my family goodbye and left for school. We live in a small town of Wilton, the population is very low and almost everyone know everybody. There is only one school here which is enough for this town. Wilton high. I continue to walk to school and greet people on the way. I see my other classmates walking too, and flash them a smile, which they return. As I entered the school gates I’m tackled on the ground by two heavy masses also known as Kelsey and Mason. These idiots have been my best friends since we were in diapers and I love them to the core of my heart, but they don’t have to know that. I shoved them away and laughed our butts off at each other’s disheveled appearances. We go to our lockers and talk about the latest gossips floating around. We bid goodbyes when the bell rings with the promise to meet at the cafeteria during lunch. School has never been this boring in the history of education. This math class is literally draining the life out of me, get out already! I groaned in my head for the thousandth time. My eyes flickered to the clock hung on the wall, just five more minutes. Five more minutes, I chanted in my head. The bell made the annoying sound that it makes and I sighed in relief. I was free. I packed all my books in my bag and sprinted out of the class as if it was on fire, it was lunch now and I was so looking forward to it. Unlike other high schools Wilton high serves good cafeteria food, encouraging students not to bring food from home. I entered the cafeteria hall which was like any other cliché cafeteria. You can find all kind stereotypes here, the jocks on the center table, the cheerleaders on their right. And the others surrounding them. I saw Mason and Kelsey sitting at the corner table and made a beeline in their direction. Both of them had already bought their lunch from the counter and they also took the liberty to get me my favorite a slice of double cheese pizza with the side of chips and sprite. BFF goals! I dropped my bag on the side and plonked my butt on the hard chair, diving for the slice of pure goodness. I was so engrossed in eating that I dint notice mason and Kelsey talking animatedly. “What are you guys talking about?” I asked finishing my pizza and going for the chips. I’m damn hungry. “You don’t know? There is going to be an exchange program soon. We got the notice earlier in class.” Mason replied and Kelsey nodded in agreement. “What for? I din't know our school could afford an exchange program.” I said shrugging my shoulders, sipping my sprite. “Nobody know's yet. I hope there are girls in it though, hot girls.” Mason said and gave his signature smirk in the end, I and Kelsey rolled our eyes at his last comment, stupid Mason. “Well I guess we have to just wait then. I have a feeling it’s going to be interesting” I concluded and stole a few fries from mason.
