I peek around the trunk of the tree carefully and try to assess the situation as quickly as I can. I’m still too far away to get a good view… to see exactly what I’m dealing with but if I move too quickly or make any sudden movements, I risk giving my position away. I slowly creep my way forward to the next large tree, managing to squeeze my back against it just in time. I close my eyes and focus on steadying my breathing and slowing down my rapid heartbeat.
