When Leo’s poor mother told me that Leo was one the one they were waiting for I assumed she meant the Dullahan, and maybe that was also true but when the Tree Guardians bowed their heads while on one knee when Pythia and Colton showed up carrying Leo who was still swaddled in Colton’s t-shirt, I knew they were the ones waiting for him. The most beautifully colored bird I’d ever seen flew from the trees and landed in the circle the other guardians made, the colors of his feathers were striking against the dreary grey of the dead part of the jungle we were in. Before our eyes, the majestic bird seamlessly turned into a man that was much bigger than the others.
