I hastily packed my things and was heading out with my suitcase when Mary stopped me.
"Where are you going, Young Mistress?" she asked, blocking my path.
"Move," I said coldly.
Guilt finally flickered across her face. "Is this because of what the Young Master and I kept from you? I apologize—please don’t leave! He was just unsure about trusting you at first, that’s why he made such a foolish mistake. Give him a chance, won’t you? You’ve always cared for him so much—everyone has seen it. Please, stay!"
Hearing the commotion, my mother-in-law rushed out and gasped at the sight of my luggage. She, too, blocked my way.
"What’s going on? Where are you going? Helen, is this because of Ethan faking his illness? I’ll apologize on his behalf—don’t leave!"
