She froze.
“I let you go,” I repeated, dropping my voice because the truth was too sharp to say any louder. “But not for a noble reason. Not because I thought it was best for you. I let you go because I wanted you to know what heartbreak felt like. I wanted you to understand what you did to me the morning after your birthday.”
Her head snapped toward me, eyes blazing. “What did I do to you, Silas? What?” She was gritting her teeth so hard I thought one might chip.
