Helena vanished into the chaos without looking back.
Her light flared brighter with every step she took, cutting a path through bodies and shadow, and for a fraction of a second I just stood there, my chest tight, watching her go like my body hadn’t quite accepted yet that this was real.
Then the world snapped back into focus.
The battlefield didn’t pause for longing.
Seiryu surged forward inside me, hot and violent and impatient, a low snarl curling through my spine and down my limbs like electricity finally allowed to discharge.
‘Alright,’ I thought, teeth grinding as adrenaline flooded my veins. ‘Let’s work.’
The first vampire came at me without hesitation, fast and reckless, eyes blown wide with hunger and way too much cockiness for his stance.
