Steele spends the entire day and night in the red room. He watches Ezekiel come back in, he watches Easton move through woman after woman. For the whole day he has been desperate to leave, he wants to move, he wants to run to Wren, he wants to review vision and make plans, but he has to watch how well the royals live while his baby girl is locked up. This type of superficial life, goalless, loveless, lazy life looks like Steele’s worst nightmare. He can’t help but think that the whole royal line would be saved if Easton had been free of this influence and had gone to Wolfgrove. While it may not have been all about the royal responsibilities, he hasn’t actually seen that from either man. The most he has seen Easton do is to train. He has not witnessed him do a scrap of work.
