“So, you’re Enzo’s stepsister, huh?” Shopie said, eyebrow raised, after looking me over. I wasn’t in expensive clothes like her, but I still looked put-together. I didn’t miss the way her brow shot up, and her face hardened when she saw my hand. My wedding ring. Enzo’s ring. I lifted my chin and met her judgmental stare. I wasn’t surprised she knew who I was. His father had probably already told her. That I was his orphaned stepsister. “Yes, I am,” I said, steady. “Did Enzo marry you out of pity? Well, you are pitiful. You’re an orphan. And you haven’t even finished school. Pity, that’s probably what he felt for you,” she said, looking down at me. It hurt. I didn’t show it. I kept my chin up. No matter what she threw at me, I wasn’t going to flinch. I wasn’t going to let her win.
